Abstract:
An apparatus and method for swaging a square or rectangular tube, the apparatus including a support for external dies, both surface dies and corner dies, which when actuated, apply pressure to the outside of a tube to achieve its swaging to a lesser dimension, and having a collapsible mandrel located therein, supporting internal dies, that apply a lesser pressure against the interior of the tube, during a swaging operation, to assure that wall buckling does not occur. An internal die with its removing tool may locate within the end of the tube to be swaged to cooperate with the pressure from the external dies to swage the tube without any final buckling.

Abstract:
The various embodiments herein provide a mandrel assembly for tube bending. The mandrel assembly comprises a plurality of chains, a ring arranged between the plurality of chains links, a plurality of ball segments, a shank and a pin. The ring is placed between the set of chain links and the chain links are inserted into the one side of the ball segment and the other side of the ball segment is inserted with other set of chain links and the pin is held to hold the components firmly. The plurality of chains links are passed into a machined section of each of the plurality of ball segments and the pin is inserted into a groove of the ball segments to hold the plurality of chains and then connected to the shank thereby forming a mandrel joint.
Abstract:
An arm material for an upper arm or a lower arm is provided which constitutes a double wishbone suspension or the like of an automobile and which has a flat, hollow, closed cross-sectional shape and enables further decreases in size, decreases in weight, and increases in strength. An arm material for an automobile suspension has a body made from a parts material made by metal. The parts material made by metal has a flat, hollow, closed cross-sectional shape having a pair of opposing long sides and is formed from a single member in its lengthwise direction. The body has at least a first bent portion which is bent in a plane roughly parallel to the pair of long sides.
Abstract:
A pipe bending machine has a beam mounted in see-saw pivotal relation on a fulcrum and spaced apart cradles support the pipe. An actuator initially drives the second cradle and the beam apart to pivot the pipe about the first cradle until the pipe is in contact with the die and thereafter drives the beam away from the second cradle to bend the pipe against the die. The mechanical advantage of the levered operation requires only a single actuator motion to bend the pipe. An external mandrel allows the pipe to be incrementally fed through the bending machine and secures the pipe against cross-sectional distortion during the bending process.
Abstract:
A high-strength beam includes first and second sections bent in opposite directions as part of a roll-forming process. A frame includes side frame members incorporating the double-bent beam and at least one energy management tube attached to the beam. In one form, the beam is tubular and has a cross-sectional dimension of greater than 25 mm and a material strength of at least about 60 KSI tensile strength. A roll form apparatus includes a roll former device and a sweep station in-line with the roll former device for sweeping the continuous beam in first and second opposing directions. Also, a method of roll-forming comprises steps of: roll-forming a sheet of material into a continuous beam and sweeping first and second sections of the beam in opposite directions.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a nonexpandable stent and a method of making and deploying the stent. The stent includes a tubular body having a distal portion, a proximal portion, a central longitudinal portion between the distal and proximal portions, and a substantially nonexpandable diameter. The stent includes at least one securing element. The securing element includes a reinforcement member comprising a shape memory material. The securing element comprises a first configuration of the reinforcement member for delivery to a treatment site within a body vessel and a second configuration of the reinforcement member for deployment at the treatment site.
Abstract:
A tube bender comprising a mandrel, a forming member connected to the mandrel for coaction with the mandrel to effectuate bending of a tube wherein the forming member has at least two bending positions defined thereon, a handle pivotally connected to said forming member, and a release member movable relative to said handle and configured to be secured in a locked position relative to said forming member when said handle is selectively moved to any of one said at least two bending positions thereby preventing relative movement between said handle and said forming member. The release member enables an operator to move the release member to an unlocked position to permit such operator to move the handle relative to the forming member between the at least two bending positions.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for bending a hollow double structured pipe, which is simple in construction, and is capable of putting into practice easily the continuous, two- or three-dimensional bending work. This bending apparatus for the hollow double-structured pipe is of such a construction that a fixed end side of the hollow double-structured pipe is fastened to a bending dies and a fixing dies; an intermediate part of the hollow double-structured pipe is slidably held by a shoe and a pressing dies; then an inner core metal is inserted into an inner pipe, while a tubular core metal is inserted into a gap between the inner pipe and the outer pipe; and the bending dies is rotated in the direction of the pipe-bending to thereby bend the hollow double-structured pipe, wherein a holding member is provided to be commonly butt-contacted to the open end faces of both inner and outer pipes; the holding member and a chuck fixed on the peripheral surface of the outer pipe, at the open end side of the hollow double-structured pipe, are connected each other through a long guide slot formed in the tubular core metal in such a manner that the tubular core metal can be made rotatable with respect to the inner core metal.
Abstract:
Reversible fuel assembly grid tab repair tool having a tab bending member for remotely reforming fuel assembly grid tabs, wherein the tool has means for fine alignment of the tab bending member with the grid tab to be reformed. The grid tabs may be formed on the top and bottom edges of a grid strap which wraps a plurality of fuel rods disposed in the fuel assembly. The repair tool comprises a generally L-shaped frame having a vertical first leg and a horizontal second leg. Extending from the terminal end of the second leg is an alignment blade capable of being interposed between two fuel rods adjacent each side of the grid tab to be reformed. Attached to the top surface of the second leg at the terminus thereof is an anvil block having an anvil surface for bending the grid tab thereagainst when the grid tab is interposed between the anvil surface and the tab bending member. Extending from the anvil surface are a plurality of register pins capable of abutting the top and bottom edges of the grid strap for fine alignment of the tab bending member with the grid tab. A lever member pivotally connected to the repair tool is capable of translating the grid tab bending member towards the anvil surface for bending the grid tab against the anvil surface when the grid tab is interposed between the tab bending member and the anvil surface.
