    摘要: An enlarged head fastener device and method for manufacturing the same is described. The enlarged head fastener device includes a shank and a head. The head extends outwardly from the shank in a transverse plane to define a head periphery. The head has an anterior side and a posterior side. The anterior side includes a bearing surface and a convergent transition portion that reinforces the head. The convergent transition portion extends between a large end adjacent the bearing surface to a small end adjacent the shank. At least one ridge formation projects from the anterior side of the head providing additional reinforcement. The ridge formation extends continuously between an outboard end positioned on the anterior side of the head adjacent the head periphery and an inboard end positioned on the shank. The head may be centered or offset relative to the shank.

    摘要: An improved high torque fastener is provided of the type having a screw head with a generally bow-tie shaped driving slot formed with undercut side walls and an arcuately concave bottom wall for reception of an arcuately convex blade of a driving tool for relatively high torque transfer therebetween. The improved fastener includes a conical recess positioned centrally along the driving slot with a base diameter substantially greater than the width of the slot thereat and an apex disposed substantially below the slot bottom wall. The improved driving tool includes a conical tip formed centrally on an arcuately convex blade with a substantially pointed end projecting beyond the blade, wherein the blade and tip provide geometric surfaces for facilitated and aligned centering and coaxial substantial mating reception into the fastener driving slot and conical recess. Apparatus for forming the improved fastener is also disclosed.

    摘要: The present invention relates generally to improvements in die holder assemblies, and more particularly to novel and practical improvements in the design of die holder assemblies which are employed to swage or pinch point screw blanks and the like. An embodiment of the invention disclosed herein includes a pair of relatively shiftable unitary assembly sections or heads having upper die holder accommodating cavities. The lower portions of said heads accommodate ram members which guide the heads in the horizontal relative shifting thereof. Novel means is provided for securing a die holder in said cavity in such a manner as to facilitate the ease with which a die holder may be attached to or disengaged from said heads.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a nib for a forming tool of bolt head or nut, wherein a nib 7 to be used for a tool comprises a segment combination nib 2 composed of a plurality of nib segments 1, and a regular polygonal hole 6 is formed at the inside of the nib. Regular polygon is formed also at the outside of the segment combination nib 2, and a bush 3 having the same shape as the nib 2 is fitted thereto so as to reinforce the nib 7. Moreover, stress absorbing hole 9 is formed on edge portion inner circumference of the bush 3 or outer surface of the segment combination nib 2. Since the stress absorbing hole 9 serves to absorb stress concentration applied to the nib segments 1, the nib 7 is not liable to flaw in comparison to prior art and stopping of the machine for exchange of the nib 7 is scarcely needed. Accordingly a forming tool with effect of improving the productivity can be provided.

    摘要: A method for making a fastener having a head and a shank from wire or rod consisting essentially of AISI 200 or 300 series stainless steel comprising the following steps:(a) cooling the wire or rod to a temperature of less than about minus 75.degree. C.;(b) drawing the cold wire or rod through a die at a strain sufficient to provide a tensile strength for the wire or rod in the range of about 75 ksi to about 160 ksi, the strain and the die size being such that the area of the wire or rod will be reduced by at least about 3 percent; and(c) dividing the wire or rod into slugs and cold heading each slug to provide the fastener.

    摘要: The invention relates to the cold extrusion of a part having a polygonal interior and a cylindrical exterior. Instead of the usual process of forcing a polygonal punch into a billet in a single extrusion step, the new method employs a plurality of extrusion steps, first forming a lobed preparatory blank and then in a second extrusion step providing a punch and die combination whereby the external lobes of the intermediate part are forced radially inwardly. In the second extrusion step a polygonal punch is used to provide the proper polygonal interior surface. A cooperating die is provided with an upper lobed cavity for receiving the lobed preparatory blank and this die is oriented with respect to the polygonal punch so that the interior lobes of the die are exactly opposite the flats of the polygonal punch. Below the upper lobed cavity of the die is a cylindrical cavity of smaller diameter and between the two is a conical surface which directs the metal of the lobes inwardly into the die cavity opposite the flats of the polygon. The preferred polygon is a hexagon.

The punch is, axially with regard to the matrix, movably guided in a tool carrier which in pressing direction is stationarily arranged in the machine frame. Furthermore, the punch is drivingly connected to a rotatable cam disc through the intervention of a pick-up roller.
