摘要: A method of making a ceramic core is provided wherein the ceramic core is grit blasted using abrasive grit media particulates directed at the core through a preformed apertured mask or pattern to impart a controlled pattern of surface concavities to the core surface by impingement of the abrasive grit media thereon. Another method of making a ceramic casting core is provided wherein the ceramic core is formed in a molding die having a fugitive textured mask or a permanent textured insert positioned on the die surface to impart a controlled surface texture or roughness to the core surfaces.

摘要: The number of cores used in casting bolsters and sideframes is reduced. End cores and a center core are placed in a mold with cope and drag portions. Each core includes integrally-formed portions for defining portions of the interior surfaces of the bolster or sideframes. The integrally-formed portions may include a portion for defining the side window of the sideframe formed integrally with other portions, and may include a pedestal portion formed integrally with other portions. The integrally-formed portions may contact both the cope and drag portions of the mold. The end cores may include integrally formed core prints for supporting the core in the mold. The integrally-formed portions of the center core include connections that are formed integrally with the other portions. Molten metal is introduced into the mold to cast the bolster or sideframe.

摘要: A cast product is a housing for a power steering comprising a pair of large holes for both a contact valve and a cylinder, and a small hole connected to the large holes. In order to mold such a cast product, a composite core has large core portions for the large holes and small core portions for the small hole. The large core portions include resin films used to coat the outer periphery of metal bases exposed in a cavity. The small core portions include a resin body formed of a resin connected to the resin films on the outer periphery of the metal bases.

摘要: A plurality of individual thin wall, arcuate (e.g. airfoil shaped) core elements are formed in respective master dies to have integral interlocking locating features, the individual core elements are prefired in respective ceramic setter supports to have integral locating features, the prefired core elements are assembled together using the locator features of adjacent core elements, and the assembled core elements are adhered together using ceramic adhesive introduced at internal joints defined between mating interlocked locating features. The multi-wall ceramic core assembly so produced comprises the plurality of spaced apart thin wall, arcuate core elements and joined together by at the internal joints defined between the adhered interlocked locating features.

摘要: An aircraft door has an inner framework integrally connected to an outer skin by simultaneously casting the framework and the skin in a mold that holds a single core for each frame element in the form of a rib in a freight door or a beam in a passenger door. The ribs extend circumferentially relative to a longitudinal central axis of the aircraft. The beams extend in parallel to the central aircraft axis. The single core is selected from at least one core type and four core types at the most. The frame elements in the form of ribs or beams have open arches for a considerable weight reduction.

摘要: Method of making a ceramic core for casting an industrial gas turbine engine airfoil having a large airfoil pitch by forming a precursor core (chill) of smaller dimensions than the final desired ceramic core, firing the chill, applying a thin ceramic skin to the fired chill to form a coated core of final dimensions, and then firing the coated core. Firing of the thin ceramic skin reduces airfoil pitch shrinkage resulting from the latter firing operation to reduce overall core dimensional tolerance variations.

The refractory metal elements are provided to enhance the mechanical properties of the core and/or to permit the fabrication of cores having shapes and geometries that could not otherwise be achieved. In one embodiment, the entire core may be made of refractory metal components. The cores may be used to investment cast gas turbine superalloy components.

The base portion defines a passageway for the passage of a cooling media within a cast component. 摘要: A composite core structure is used for metal casting in order to form cavities of preselected sizes and shapes within the casting. The composite core has an insoluble support member that can be metallic and a soluble portion disposed around at least a part of the support member. When the composite core is used in a casting process, such as a die casting process, the soluble portion is dissolved after the casting process is complete, and the insoluble portion is then removed from the cavity that was formed through the use of the composite core.
