    摘要: A manually-powered drive device includes a drive train substantially disposed in a hollow housing. A laterally sliding transmission shaft extending laterally in an intermediate frame portion of the housing includes first and second circumferential recesses. A transmission selector spring flexes and removably slidably couples within the first circumferential recess or the second circumferential recess as the transmission shaft laterally slides between alternate positions, thereby selecting the desired rotational direction for manipulating fasteners. Another manually-powered drive device includes a first drive assembly extending coaxially in the barrel portion of the housing and a second drive assembly extending in the intermediate frame portion of the housing between any acute angle and any obtuse angle to the first drive assembly. A manually-powered drive device assembly includes a manually-powered drive device removably coupled with a removable attachment tool configured to transmit motion and driving force to a fastener for manipulation.

    摘要: A power tong 10 for making up and breaking apart threaded oilfield tubular connections includes a frame 11 having an open throat 20, a rotary ring 16 having an open throat 22, and a door 24 for closing over the open throat for safety. Hydraulic motor 42 is regulated by a control valve 52 for rotating the ring 16 which in turn rotates the oilfield tubular. A switch 46 responsive to the position of the door 24 controls the flow of air pressure to a cylinder 50, which renders active valve operator 54 which controls valve 52. According to the method of the invention, the door 24 must first be closed so that the switch 46 renders the valve operator 52 active, and the valve operator 52 must be reset once the door is opened before it can be manipulated to operate the motor control valve 52.

    摘要: A hand operated device and method for assisting a user in driving the device's shaft to impart driving force to a fastener more than conventionally accomplished in a fixed period of time. The device has a first member and a second member gripped with the user's first hand, while a handle of the shaft is held with the user's second hand. The user then turns the second member in a first direction, while still gripping the first member, so as to rotate the shaft. Next, the user releases grip on the second member while rotating the first member in a second direction, freely, without the first member ever rotationally engaging the shaft. Simultaneously, the user grips and rotates the handle in the first direction so as to continue to rotate the shaft. The user then repeats the aforementioned steps to drive the shaft as desired so that the first member never rotationally engages the shaft.
