摘要： A portable sawmill which has an elongate central portion, at least one hinged foldable extension portion, laminated rails, detachable axle/wheel combinations, a tow bar, and adjustable legs. Spacers are received between each rail and the respective support structure for both the central portion and the extension portion, including one spacer a first portion of which is disposed between and attached to each rail and support structure of one of the central portion and the extension portion and a second portion of which is slidingly receivable between each rail and support structure of the other of the central portion and the extension portion as the extension is unfolded for use. A pull cable, when an actuation lever is engaged, effects pivotal movement of a cam to which another pull cable is attached for actuating the engine throttle for cutting wood. At least one other pull cable or other actuation member is attached to the cam to actuate at least one other device upon the actuation of the throttle.

摘要： A sawmill includes a band saw mounted on a trolley. The trolley carries the band saw back and forth across the length of a log to cut it into boards. A log supporting table is adjustable to accomodate logs of various size. The trolley rails descend incrementally after each cut to reposition the band saw blade for the next cut. The length of each increment, or board thickness, is user selectable by way of an indexable detent bar and limit switch combination. The thickness across the board is held uniform by a pressurized bellows that maintains the proper blade strain in the band saw blade.

摘要： An improved height adjustable log support is provided for use in a portable sawmill having a horizontally extending blade run and a means for mounting the blade for longitudinal movement along and above the log. The log support includes a log receiving platform supported for vertical movement, lifting means and a cable connecting the platform to the lifting means. The lifting means includes a bar mounted for rotational movement, a bar driving means, such as a crank arm, and a ratchet and pawl for indexing incremental steps of rotational movement of the bar. The log bearing platform is raised incrementally as the cable connected therewith is wound onto the incrementally rotated bar.

摘要： Apparatus for in-forest cutting of lumber from felled logs is provided. The apparatus comprises a frame mounting a pair of wheels around which is trained a band saw blade. A chain saw engine is releasably connected to the frame and is coupled to one of the wheels for driving the saw blade. A carriage is mounted to the frame and is adapted to extend lengthwise of the log to enable the frame to be advanced along the log as the saw blade cuts. The carriage has a series of resilient rollers which cooperate with blade guide and stabilizer assemblies to provide a straight cut. Handles are provided at opposite ends of the frame to enable workmen to mount and to dismount the apparatus and to advance the same along the log.

摘要： A flitch or cant is successively transported by a pair of differentially operated clamps, first to a scanning station, and then to a sawing station where the wane is removed. A series of flitches are processed in this manner such that as the wane edge from a first flitch is sawn, a next flitch in succession is optically scanned. The sawing and scanning is accomplished by means of a combination saw and scanner which moves in a direction longitudinal of the flitch as respective flitches are held in stationary positions at the sawing station and at the scanning station. Between passes of the saw-scanner combination, the sawn flitch is conveyed away and the next flitch in line is conveyed forwardly to the sawing position while being skewed by the clamps in accordance with the characterization generated by the scanner. The scanner extends outwardly from the side edges of the flitch to provide a radiation beam directed obliquely inwardly and downwardly from a point displaced along the flitch from the location where the radiation image intersects the flitch and provides a line image. Television cameras also disposed to the side of the flitch view the line image at an oblique angle, but the cameras are positioned along the flitch in a second direction opposite the direction where the radiation source was located. The cameras "see" the line images on the side edge of a flitch substantially face on.

摘要： A portable bandsaw mill, readily made sufficiently light in weight to be carried by two people, having a saw unit supported on rollers, so that the saw unit can be readily guided and the cut controlled and adjusted manually. A ground-supported support frame or unit provides guide tracks spaced apart on opposite sides of a log or other workpiece, on which the saw unit can be rollingly advanced. The ends of the guide tracks are supported in end frames by structure enabling the levels of the guide tracks to be conveniently adjusted for successively lower passes of the saw unit through the log. Guide beam ends are capable of independent adjustment to accommodate differences in level between the four corners of the support unit. A manually advanced rolling saw head of the saw unit includes two bandsaw pulleys, each having a bandsaw blade entrained thereon, one being an idler pulley and the other a drive pulley. The drive pulley, rotatably driven, can be powered by a hydraulic motor, with the actual pressure fluid source separate from the mill. The motor can be readily separable from the saw unit for use in powering other apparatus. The mill can be readily employed for rip sawing logs into boards at any convenient location for example the felling site.
