A method of making rotating element sheet material utilizing magnetic latching is disclosed. First a plurality of rotating elements, each element having a magnetized segment, are mixed with an elastomer and a plurality of magnetic particles to attract the magnetic particles to the magnetized segments. Then a magnetic field is applied to orient the elements in a common direction. When the rotating elements have all been oriented in a common direction, they are held in that orientation for a long enough period of time to allow the magnetic particles to migrate in the elastomer to the regions of the elastomer in the vicinity of the magnetized segments of the elements. The elastomer is then cured to form an elastomer substrate with trapped rotating elements and magnetic particles. The elastomer substrate is then immersed into a bath of dielectric plasticizer which is absorbed more readily by elastomer than by the rotating elements. The elastomer substrate swells to create plasticizer-filled voids around the rotating elements. The magnetic particles remain incorporated within the elastomer to form magnetic material pads which are associated with an element.

All of the current processes for making molded particleboard products require very long furnish dwell times within a heated press, due to the low heat transfer rates from the heated molds to the furnish being compressed. Furnish dwell times vary between approximately one minute to more than 10 minutes, depending upon the part thickness. Since profitability of a particleboard molding operation is closely related to product throughput, these long furnish dwell times within the heated press limit production rates and continue to be a major economic concern to the industry. The essence of the invention is a heretofore unsuggested use of radiowave energy to speed production of molded particleboard parts by preheating the furnish prior to the application of heat and pressure within the forming mold. Because radiowaves propagate readily throughout the volume of the furnish, rapid heating is obtainable even for a loose, uncompacted particulate furnish that has very poor thermal conductivity. By utilizing a radiowave preheating scheme, rather than applying radiowaves simultaneously with hot pressing, relatively simple yet highly effective radiowave applicators may be devised.

The method includes the steps of providing plastic resin in powdered form, subjecting the powdered resin to irradiation to cross-link the resin, and molding the irradiated powder. The irradiated powder is molded by applying heat and pressure to form the powder into a desired solid plastic shape, the heating being sufficient to melt the powder.

A method is provided for manufacturing a holder which has a holding part and a connector part. The holding part has an elastic body holding a built-in electronic part in a position. The method steps include pouring a liquid polymer mixed with a magnetic electric conductor into a mold for forming the holder. A magnetic force is applied to a desired position in the mold to orient the magnetic electric conductor to form a connector pattern of the connector part with the magnetic force. A holding part is molded integrally with the connector part to provide a one piece integral structure by crosslinking the liquid polymer. The magnetic electric conductor may be linked together by a force of a magnetic field. This defines a conductive passage in the connector part.

Methods for fabricating prosthetic medical devices exhibiting improved wear resistance include selectively cross-linking polymeric resins then curing and shaping the polymer into a finished article. Selectively cross-linked polymeric compositions may be created by blending a specific amount of cross-linked resins with a specific amount of uncross-linked resins then cured into a polymeric matrix whereby the desired degree or percentage of overall cross-linking is obtained. The polymeric material may then be formed directly into a finished article by injection molding the polymeric material.
