    Abstract: An intermediate article of manufacture formed as a first stage bead area subassembly for a split ply pneumatic tire carcass is disclosed. The bead area subassembly has an annular bead core; a bead apex; a ply strip; and preferably a sidewall affixed to the ply strip. The subassembly is formed into a disk-shaped bead area monocomponent. The ply strip is wrapped about the bead core and the apex to form a ply turnup and both the ply strip and the ply turnup extend radially outwardly from the bead core. The bead area subassembly when formed into the disk-shaped bead area monocomponent is placed on an annular holder device. The combination of the bead area monocomponent on the holder device can be stacked for storage and latter assembly into a split ply carcass. Preferably, the ply turnup can be oriented extending inside or axially inward of the bead core on final assembly to form a split ply tire having axially inside turnups. In the preferred embodiment the ply strip is reinforced by radially extending ply cords.

    Abstract: An object is to both provide a tire that is formed from a resin material, and in particular a thermoplastic material, and to also suppresses incorporation of air, raising durability. A tire 10 includes: a ring shaped tire case 23 formed from a resin material; a reinforcement cord 26 having a higher rigidity that that of the resin material, wound in a spiral shape on the outer peripheral section of the tire case 23 and having at least a portion of the reinforcement cord 26 embedded in and making close contact with the outer peripheral section of the tire case 23 when viewed in a cross-section along the axial direction of the tire case 23; and a tread 30 provided on the radial direction outside of a reinforcement cord layer 28 formed by the reinforcement cord 26. Accordingly air can be suppressed from being incorporated and durability can be raised.

    Abstract: A reinforced, pneumatic tire and method of manufacture in which the tire body is formed in at least two sections each including a side wall and a plurality of annular bands each including an annular reinforcing belt embedded in an elastomer. The tire sections are assembled in a mold with the annular bands of each section interleaved with the annular bands of another section and the elastomer is cured to form an integral tire body. The tire may be formed of two reinforced sections with the interleaved bands forming the annular tread section of the tires, or as three reinforced sections, including two sections each including a side wall and annular bands and a connecting section including annular bands with reinforcing belts which are interleaved with the annular bands of the other two sections to form a tread section. An annular, elastomeric tread section may be formed separately and bonded around and to the annular bands of the reinforced sections.

    Abstract: Radial ply tires having good vertical flexibility as well as lateral stability even at high speeds are disclosed. The tires are characterized by a sidewall construction in which a radially inward zone in at least one sidewall is reinforced only by the ply structure of the radial carcass itself, and the respective adjacent radially outwardmost sidewall zone contiguous with the tread region of the tire is additionally reinforced by a supplementary ply structure of the carcass extending from the breaker region into the sidewall. In a preferred embodiment, the supplementary ply structure comprises sheet material folded back upon itself, with the folded edge defining the boundary between said sidewall zones. As a refinement of the invention, the respective adjacent radially inwardmost zone of the same sidewall contiguous with the associated bead region is also additionally reinforced by an extended bead turnup section folded back upon itself. The resultant intermediate sidewall zone of limited reinforcement, bounded by the proximate edges of the additional reinforcing plies in the two other zones, is of considerably reduced width with respect to the normal width of a sidewall between the proximate edges of the standard breaker and bead turnup, whereby the tire is somewhat rigidified but retains an optimum degree of flexibility. The sidewall region corresponding to the intermediate zone may also be reduced in thickness.
