    摘要: A labeler includes at least one bellows movable between extended and retracted positions. The bellows includes a cap defining a distal end for carrying the label and having at least one cap opening therein, and a pleated sidewall connected to the cap. The labeler includes a flexible coil tube positioned within the bellows and having a distal end connected in fluid communication with the cap openings and a proximal end for being connected to negative and positive fluid pressure, respectively. A positioner advances the bellows along a path of travel between a label pick-up position and a label application position. A pressure controller selectively connects the bellows and the proximal end of the flexible coil tube to negative and positive fluid pressures as the bellows is advanced along the path of travel. The pressure controller may, during a first time, connect the bellows to positive fluid pressure while connecting the proximal end of the flexible coil tube to negative pressure to retain the label as the at least one bellows is moved to the extended position. The pressure controller may also, during a second time period after the first time period, connect the proximal end of the flexible coil tube to positive fluid pressure while connecting the at least one bellows to negative fluid pressure so as to expel a label not applied to an article as the bellows is moved to the retracted position.

    摘要: A supply of sheet stock material for use in a cushioning conversion machine is disclosed. The supply of stock material includes at least one ply of sheet stock material rolled or folded into a compact configuration such as a roll of wound stock material or a stack of fan-folded stock material. The ply has disposed on a leading or trailing end thereof, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer and a removable release liner covering the pressure sensitive adhesive layer. When a supply of sheet stock material is almost spent, a succeeding supply of stock material may be spliced to the almost spent supply by removing the release liner to expose the adhesive and then applying the leading or trailing end, having the adhesive thereon, to a trailing end of the almost spent supply of stock material or leading end of the succeeding supply of stock material.

    摘要: A butt splicer apparatus is disclosed for butt splicing a tail end of a roll having a first and second label mounted in series thereon with a leading edge of a new roll having a first and second further label mounted in series thereon. The apparatus includes a cutter for cutting through the tail end and a detector for detecting a location disposed along the tail end so that movement of the location past the detector generates a signal. The apparatus also includes a rotatable drive for driving the tail end relative to the cutter, the signal controlling rotation of the drive. The arrangement is such that the second label and the further second label are registered congruently relative to each other with the cutter disposed between the first and second label. When the cutter cuts through the tail end, the cut tail end and leading edge are butt spliced together with the first label and the second further label aligned relative to each other so that a distance between the first label and the second further label mounted on the spliced rolls is equal to a further distance between other adjacent labels mounted on the spliced rolls so that application of the labels from the spliced rolls is uninterrupted.

    摘要: The gluing together of flat materials between belt faces (21, 22), facing one another, of belt conveyors (15, 16) arranged over one another is effected usually with the application of heat and pressure. However there are pressure sensitive materials that with the gluing may only be impinged with a slight pressure. Here already the weight of the sagging belt face (21) of the upper belt conveyor may lead to an excessive pressure loading and a permanent deformation of the materials caused by way of this. The invention solves the mentioned problem in that the upper belt face (21) located above the materials to be glued is held up without contact, e.g., by means of suction nozzles or magnets. The sagging of the belt face (21) is alleviated by way of this and an undesirable high pressure loading of the materials to be glued is avoided. By way of the contactless holding-up of the belt face (21) the suction nozzles or magnets do not interfere.

The trailing end of one strip and the leading end of the next strip are brought together in abutting relationship within a splicing unit, sealing material (22) is overlaid on the end zones of opposite sides of the strips, and this is sealed to the underlying zipper strips, preferably using heat and pressure. The flanges (18) of the zipper strips are held apart by separator plates (20) during the sealing operation.
