Abstract: A method for printing a marking on a golf ball includes arranging ink in an etching pattern on a printing plate, matching a reference position on the plate to a reference position on the golf ball, transferring the ink from the printing plate to a pad, and transferring the ink from the pad to the golf ball such that the golf ball includes the marking. The pattern includes an etch corresponding to the marking, wherein the etch differs from the marking in a manner dependent on the position of the marking on the golf ball. The marking that results on the golf ball is a linear marking, and a centerline of the linear marking lies entirely within a marking plane that is not a centerline plane of the golf ball, and wherein the edges of the marking are parallel with the marking plane.

Abstract: An apparatus for printing on spherically symmetrical objects configured to secure a plurality of spherically symmetrical objects between detents at once comprising a driving assembly, followed by a baseplate driving end, followed by a spherically symmetrical object, followed by several ball-cup assemblies enclosing the spherically symmetrical objects, followed by a ball-release assembly, enclosed by a baseplate holder end, mounted to a baseplate with a quick release system supporting. The apparatus is developed to interface with a rotary rack to allow for the rotation of the spherically symmetrical objects by way of converting the linear motion of a flatbed printer to rotational motion in the detents to which the spherically symmetrical objects are held. Additionally, a spring of appropriate stiffness is used to form a rigid rod of the respective spherically symmetrical objects within the confines of the cupping assemblies allowing for incremental printing, and release, of enclosed objects.

Abstract: A mandrel wherein a portion of the mandrel body outer surface is conical; i.e., flared outwardly, is provided. In this configuration, the necked can is drawn against the conical portion of the mandrel body outer surface while a generally cylindrical portion of the mandrel body extends into the can. Further, the space between the cylindrical portion of the mandrel body and the can is pressurized so as to resist deformations in the can during the decorating process. In an exemplary embodiment, the mandrel includes an elongated mandrel body with an outer surface, a proximal, first end, a proximal medial portion, a distal medial portion, and a distal, second end and having an axis of rotation. The mandrel body outer surface includes an elongated conical portion; the mandrel body outer surface conical portion is disposed adjacently about the mandrel body first end.

Abstract: An offset printing method is provided that, while using an ink with a viscosity that allows for printing of a print image on a printing plate by an ink-jet process, enables a precise print image to be transferred from the printing plate to a print medium by use of a printing blanket. The offset printing method includes a printing-plate making step of printing an inked image on a printing plate by an ink-jet process, an ink drying step of evaporating a solvent contained in the ink of the inked image to increase the viscosity of the ink, a transferring step of transferring the inked image to the surface of a printing blanket, and a printing step of pressing the printing blanket against a print medium.
