A frame may be secured to a perimeter of the transparent sheet. An original image abuts the second surface of the transparent sheet and visible through the transparent sheet. The original image may include alphanumeric characters corresponding to colors of yarn. A pen having a tubular body has yarn extending through the tubular body. The pen can be used to adhere the yarn to selected areas of the transparent sheet using the original image as a guide.

The Pattern System also prevents the pattern from getting too moist—a common problem with the standard techniques. Moisture from the grinder (and/or the saw) typically misaligns and even warps the pattern, which means the disappointment of starting from scratch, redoing the pattern piece over again to ensure precision assembly.

The parquet blocks in plan view may be of varying shapes such as rectangular, triangular, etc. while the geometric forms may be, for example, any one of parallel ridges, lands between parallel slots, rows of selected shapes in linearly spaced, linear alignment, etc. Indicia may be provided on the blocks together with a chart having markings facilitating selecting and adhering the blocks to the supporting structure to obtain the desired pattern.

The decorative art form includes a first sheet of material lying generally in a first plane and having a plurality of apertures formed therethrough in a predetermined pattern to outline the profile of the decorative art form. Also included is a second sheet of material lying generally in a second plane which is generally parallel to the first plane. The second sheet has a predetermined plurality of second apertures formed therethrough in a predetermined pattern which outlines the same profile as that outlined by the predetermined pattern of first apertures formed through the first sheet. A predetermined plurality of retainers are inserted into corresponding apertures of the first and second sheets to maintain the first and second sheets in a rigid and parallel relationship to form a free-standing decorative art form. One embodiment includes a predetermined art work pattern of colors on the front of the first sheet. Another embodiment includes a predetermined art work pattern of colors on the back of the second sheet as well as on the front of the first sheet. Another embodiment includes a lamp assembly in each retainer with the lamp assembly oriented to display light at the front of the decorative art form.

An appearance of a mitered edge is provided at each corner of the plate by placing the dense end of each of the bands of light interrupting areas or spots along one margin of the plate adjacent to the least dense end of the band of light interrupting areas or spots at the adjacent margin of the plate.
