Abstract:
Polyblock railway wheel of the type comprising a rim (1), a center part (2) constituted by a hub (22) and a web (6), a damper (5) disposed between the center part (2) and the rim (1), at least one flange (3), and fasteners (7) for fixing the at least one flange (3). The rim (1) comprises in its inner part (9) two connection fillets (10,11) located on opposite sides of the plane of symmetry of the wheel and interconnected in their innermost part, by a generally flat annular strip (12). The damper (5) has a tulip-shaped section. It comprises two rings (19,20) each formed by a ring of elastic polymer material inserted between and bonded to an upper metal flank (31) and a lower metal flank (32); the upper metal flank (31) cooperating with the innermost part (9) of the rim (1), and the lower metal flank (32) cooperating with a flange (3,4).
Abstract:
A shock-absorbing wheel assembly having an annular cast iron core member disposed concentrically about an annular bearing seat in spaced relation thereto, with the core member having passageways extending radially therethrough. A continuous integral mass of moldably polyurethane is provided to cover the exterior surface of the core member with a predetermined thickness, to fill the passageways in the core member, and to fill the spacing between the core member and the bearing seat. A method of forming the wheel assembly is provided, which includes locating the core member and bearing seat within a cylindrical mold cavity, permitting flowable polyurethane to flow into the interconnected spacings and passageways, and allowing the polyurethane to cure.
Abstract:
A wheel for rail vehicles with at least one disc which is connected to an axle, and with a wheel rim having a tread or surface surrounding the disc, while the rail tread in engagement with the rim tread results in contacting points of the wheel during straight forward drive of the vehicle located on the tread or track of the rails. At least within that region of the rim which contains the above mentioned rail contacting points of the wheel rim the wheel rim is turnably connected to the disc for turning about an imaginary axis located in about the driving direction of the wheel.
Abstract:
A wheel construction including a rigid circular disk having a hole therethrough in the approximate center thereof. A bearing structure housed in a flexible sleeve is resiliently supported in the hole to facilitate a rotation of the disk about a defined axis of rotation. An annulus of moldable synthetic resin material is fixedly secured to the peripheral surface of the disk. The annulus has a rigid characteristic and the periphery thereof defines a tread mounting surface. An annular tread made of moldable synthetic resin material is fixedly secured to the tread mounting surface on the annulus. The tread has an outer diameter that is precisely concentric with the axis of rotation of the wheel. The materials of the tread and of the annulus are compatible with each other such that the tread becomes bonded to the annulus upon a molding thereof around the peripheral surface of the annulus. In one embodiment, the rigid circular disk is composed of a pair of identical metal stampings which are held together solely by the annulus.
