摘要: Provided is a safer air bag system which relieves shock to the head and face of an occupant when an air bag inflates and deploys. An air bag body 1 consists of a primary air bag 2 and a secondary air bag 3 which is provided on the front surface of the primary air bag 2. When an inflator 4 is actuated, the high-pressure gas is introduced into the primary air bag 2 to inflate and deploy the primary air bag 2 and then fed into the secondary air bag 3 through gas introducing ports 6 of the primary air bag 2 so that the secondary air bag 3 inflates and deploys more slowly than the primary air bag 2. The secondary air bag 3 thus absorbs shock to the face of the occupant caused by the inflation and deployment of the primary air bag 2.

摘要: A partitioned air bag (55) comprising an upper (54) and a lower (52) inflatable chamber, the lower chamber upon inflation is positioned to provide a cushioned boundary generally against the lower chest and abdomen of an occupant to be protected, the lower chamber first receiving inflation gas from a source of inflation wherein the inflation gas is sequentially transferred to the upper chamber through one or more ports (162) formed by a separator panel that separates the air bag into the upper and lower chambers. The air bag is inflated by a single stage air bag inflator (26) characterized as having a relatively low fill rate.

摘要: An air bag device mounted on a steering wheel comprises a holding unit connected to a boss portion of the steering wheel. An inflater is held by the holding unit. The inflater includes a gas ejection portion. First and second fabrics have peripheral portions sewed together to constitute a bag structure. A gas inlet opening is formed in the first fabric. The gas inlet opening has the gas ejection portion of the inflater passed therethrough, so that the gas inlet opening is exposed to the interior of the bag structure. A third fabric is smaller in size than the first and second fabrics. The third fabric is installed in the bag structure in a manner to cover over the gas ejection portion of the inflater. A plurality of sewed points are provided by which the first and third fabrics are sewed together. A plurality of gas flow passages are provided between the first and third fabrics. Each gas flow passage is defined between neighboring two of the sewed points. A vent opening extends through one of the sewed points to provide a communication between a major portion of the interior of the bag structure and the outside of the same.

摘要: Conventional airbag apparatuses have a very large volume for offering the greatest possible protection for the passenger, and therefore block the driver's view of the traffic situation and preclude further steering actions. Additionally, the passenger is endangered if he is in an atypical sitting position. Multi-stage airbag systems permit an adaptation of the degree of deployment to the size and/or position of the passenger, but are very complicated and slow. Proposed is a passenger-protection apparatus having a first airbag for a first stage of deployment, and a second airbag for a second stage of deployment, which occurs after and independently of the first, with the shape of the first airbag and the quantity of gas supplied to it being determined such that, when filled with this quantity of gas, the first airbag has a collision zone that corresponds to the diameter of the steering wheel, and has a short expansion length in the direction of the passenger, in relation to the distance between the collision zone and the passenger. A second airbag, which can be deployed independently, laterally surrounds the first airbag, partially or preferably completely, in the manner of a hose in the filled state, and compresses the first airbag, so the expansion length of the first airbag increases. Whereas the first airbag is deployed early and independently of the position of the passenger, the second airbag can be filled afterward with different quantities of gas when a second acceleration threshold is exceeded, as a function of the position and/or size of the passenger, by a controllable gas source, which can preferably be deployed in stages, thereby establishing the shape of the two airbags and the deformation of the first airbag.

摘要: An air bag body (1) is expanded by charging an air therein after being expanded in a flat surface shape. Next, by gently gripping the air bag body (1) by upper and lower blades (26, 25) radially arranged in a radial direction of the air bag body (1), a height in a radial direction of the air bag body (1) is linearly restricted along the upper and lower blades (26, 25). Next, a plurality of movable blocks (24) are forward moved toward a center of the air bag body (1), and upper and lower panels (12, 11) of the air bag body (1) are accumulated. At this time, the upper and lower panels (12, 11) of the air bag body (1) are folded in a state of being apart from each other so as to form a wave shape. Next, the air bag body (1) is rotated, a portion left in a tab shape is wound around a periphery, and a center protruding portion of the air bag body (1) is pressed from an upper side, whereby a front surface deploying portion (35) is formed. When supplying gas to the folded air bag body (1), the front surface deploying portion (35) rapidly deploys so as to break a cover (5) and the gas is smoothly supplied to a peripheral edge portion (14), whereby it is possible to smoothly and rapidly deploy the air bag body (1).

摘要: The present invention relates to an inflatable occupant restraint device having an inflator, an outer bag disposed around the inflator to allow the outer bag to be filled with gas produced by the inflator, an inner bag, disposed in between the outer bag and the inflator, wherein the inner bag is made of a flexible material having at least one flow outlet in the flexible material altering the flow of gas produced by the inflator. The inner bag protects the outer bag from hot gases and particles emanating from the inflator. The inner bag may also have a pattern of stitched seams forming gas flow outlets to impart a desired flow pattern to the inflating gases.

摘要: An inflatable airbag cushion (10, 110, 210, 310, 410, 510) is provided. The bag includes a face portion and a rear portion formed from first and second fabric layers (30, 32). The bag further includes a number of straight line woven in joints (16) defining flow barrier elements (14). The flow barrier elements (14) serve to contain the inflation gases and to restrict inflation of the cushion.

摘要: An airbag comprising a baffle and a heat shield. The baffle contains an opening, which is aligned with at least one-half of the inflator opening and having an area that is at minimum one-half of the area of the inflator opening. Inflation gas from an inflator flows into the baffle and then enters the airbag by way of the baffle opening. Because of the tortuous flow of the inflation gas inside the baffle, the hot particulates fall to the bottom of the baffle and thus never come into contact with the in flatable cushion.

摘要: A safety arrangement for a motor vehicle includes an airbag disposed in an area of a roof frame of a vehicle body which includes an “A” pillar, a “B” pillar, and a “C/D” pillar. A connecting tube is coupled to the airbag and extends in the area of the roof frame from the “A” pillar to the “C/D” pillar to conduct pressure gas from a pressure gas source to the airbag. The connecting tube is so configured as to provide stiffening for increasing a lateral rigidity of the roof frame and is firmly secured at least to the “A” pillar and the “C/D” pillar.

摘要: The airbag module has a base plate, two inflators, a top plate and two airbags. The inflators are mounted into the base plate and the airbags are secured to the base plate via top plates. The first airbag has substantially an “L” cross section in its deployed state. The second airbag is adjacent to the first airbag and while both bags are deployed, there is substantially no gap between the first and second airbags.
