    摘要： An apparatus (1) that can be converted into an air cushion support or into an air cushion support for a vehicle (3). This apparatus can be folded into a compact container or put onto its own wheels (2) permitting it to be hauled as a trailer. The apparatus comprises a latticed folding base composed of hingedly connected main sections (10) and perimeter sections (11-14), a flexible inflatable air cushion skirt (5) and coupling means (8,9) for coupling the vehicle (3) to the main sections of the base, to propulsion and blowing means (6) and to a steering gear mechanism (7). The lower surface of latticed sections is covered by elastic airtight sheet material (33,34) which forms a chamber (35) of the flexible inflatable skirt and an air cushion chamber (37). Longitudinal (19) and transverse (20) girders of main sections of the base are connected by elastic and resilient coupling elements (21) permitting limited displacements of these girders against each other and thus giving to the base the capability of matching, to a certain extent, a given terrain contour when the apparatus is converted into an air cushion support and used as a vehicle for travel.

    摘要： A low profile air cushion loading platform is provided with a driving and steering device comprising a plurality of laterally spaced steering boxes located under the platform. Each steering box includes a plurality of wheel members adapted to be driven by motors about horizontal axes of rotation, with the wheel members and their driving motors being located within a ball race and rotatable with said ball race as a unit about a vertical axis. The ball race has gear teeth which cooperate with a driving gear operated by an electrohydraulic steering system to rotate the ball races of different ones of the steering boxes through different angles respectively during the steering operation, to cause the wheel members of all the steering boxes to be driven along arcs having a common center of curvature.

    摘要： A surface effects skimmer vehicle generates a downward air flow into a tunnel under a main hull to lift the main hull off an adjacent surface, and rearward air flows for thrust. The air flows are generated by ducted fans or jet engines, and directed to the rear and/or down by controlling the degree of opening of a Deflector Air Gate (DAG) on the bottom of the main hull. The tunnel includes tunnel edges to contain the downward air flow under the main hull for surface lubrication. The vehicle further includes a rear portion with horizontal and vertical stabilizers to provide air-craft like behavior.

    摘要： A trailer-container for a vehicle (1) which can be converted into a support base on an air cushion comprising a rigid sectionalized platform (4) equipped with a flexible inflatable air cushion skirt (5) with removable rotor-type power plants (6) and means for coupling them to the drive of the vehicle (1) mounted on the platform. The platform (4) of the trailer-container is made of rigid interconnected sections which can be folded into a compact package. The sections are connected to the flexible inflatable skirt (5). Each of the power plants (6) is made as a blower fan and a variable-pitch air screw which are mounted coaxially in a common ring housing. The platform (4) together with the skirt (5) is fitted with disengagable attachment joints for securing it to the wheelbase of the vehicle (1) so that disturbances of the platform and skirt can be damped by suspension of the vehicle when in motion. The steering gear is made as aerodynamic rudders which are installed on the platform and are fitted with flexible rods for connecting them to the steering mechanism of the vehicle (1).

    摘要： A compact lift generating system is provided. The lift generating system embodies a wind tunnel enclosure extending between an inlet and an outlet. An airflow generator may be fluidly coupled to the enclosure inlet, an intake of a feedback conduit may be fluidly associated with the enclosure outlet, and an airfoil disposed therebetween. Airflow is urged to engage the airfoil, producing lift. The airflow generator may include a fan, an amplifier and an air knife fluidly coupled in series, wherein an output end of the feedback conduit fluidly connects between the airflow generator and the amplifier. A plurality of wind tunnels enclosures may be operatively associated in series. A plurality of airfoils may be provided in a stacked orientation in one wind tunnel enclosure.

Levitating platform (100) comprises a platform structure (110), which includes a bottom extended surface (116) and a lip (114). The flow of air (30) in plenum (123) creates positive and negative pressures within plenum (123). The positive and negative pressures generate attractive and repelling forces between platform structure (110) and support surface (20) causing platform structure (110) to levitate off support surface (20) in a stable, easily controllable manner.

    摘要： A high-speed transportation system employing a pivotally supported guide rail structure made of sections connected by expansion joints, with a self-propelled airplane automatically steered to fly along the guide rail with minimum force therebetween by a control system that is inclusive of displacement sensors associated with air bearings coupling the aircraft to the guide rail. A wheeled construction having wheels that can be driven, braked or free wheeling is provided that is automatically lowered or maintained in a lowered position contacting the guide rail whenever the aircraft lacks flying speed or the wheels are either driven or braked. The air bearings urge centering of the rail both vertically and laterally with respect thereto. Flight stability of the aircraft is enhanced by the provision of a ground effect bed, and gust spoilers, with the latter additionally functioning as a noise abatement device.
