    摘要: A motor with a variable speed controller is used to operate a hose reel for connecting a fuel source or decontaminant on a tanker plane to a fuel tank or other receptor on an unmanned vehicle. The hose reel is controlled to feed the fuel or other liquid through the hose and a drogue to a receiving probe on the unmanned vehicle and is also controlled to maintain the drogue in proper position. This end result is achieved by means of a controlling transponder on the unmanned vehicle which receives radio control signals from a communicating transponder on the tanker. A microcomputer processes the received control signals which are then fed to the motor controller. The motor controller not only controls the positioning of the drogue but also controls the motor so that excess hose is reeled in by the hose reel. The controller in addition controls the thrust power. A lidar tracker with a miniature video camera maintains a line of sight between the drogue and the receiver probe and tracks the drogue-probe.

    摘要: A method for refueling and reloading an unmanned aircraft for continuous flight is disclosed herein wherein the unmanned aircraft is maintained and supported by a support aircraft. Both aircraft maintain cargo bays and in-flight operable doors located on the underside of each aircraft for the purposes of docking and exchanging goods. Preferably the goods comprise loadable cartridges and may contain such items as weapons, cargo, or fuel for example. In one embodiment, when both aircraft are in a docked configuration for exchange of goods during flight, the in-flight operable doors open and the support aircraft is capable of loading such cartridges aboard the unmanned aircraft. When necessary the support aircraft may load gear for the purposes of landing the unmanned aircraft. Alternate methods of reloading an unmanned aircraft for continuous flight is disclosed wherein the unmanned aircraft does not have cargo bay doors and the aircraft is supported by a support aircraft.

    摘要: The invention is a method for engaging the drogue of a hose and drogue refueling system with the probe of a receiver aircraft for aerial refueling from a tanker aircraft. The tanker aircraft and receiver aircraft approximately match speed and direction, with the probe of the receiver aircraft maintained at approximately a first predetermined distance behind the tanker aircraft. The hose and drogue are extended rearward from the tanker aircraft so that the drogue is positioned at a second predetermined distance (shorter than the first predetermined distance) behind the tanker aircraft. The drogue and probe are orthogonally aligned with each other, and the hose is extended back beyond the second predetermined distance so that the drogue moves away from the tanker aircraft to and into engagement with the probe. The force of the air stream on the drogue is sufficient to provide for secure engagement of the drogue with the probe.
