摘要： An idler roll brake in a paper handing machine employs an electromagnet positioned close to the periphery all of the idler roll which interacts with and induces eddy currents a conducive roll and a gear shaped steel ring fitted within the conducive roll. The electromagnet is arranged transverse to the axis of the roll and has three poles. The gear-shaped steel ring forms opposite poles which are attracted to the poles of the electromagnet which bring the roll to complete stop. An alternative embodiment roll brake employs a brake shoe mounted to the roll end bearing. The brake shoe slides forward to bring the brake shoe against the interior surface of the roll. An electromagnet positioned beneath the roll attracts a ferromagnetic armature or permanent magnet mounted to the brake to pull the brake shoe into engagement with the inner surface of the roll.

摘要： Methods and apparatus to reduce or eliminate misalignment, wrinkles, and creases in coated web product. A relationship between web outgassing pressure and surface roughness of the web and web transporting rollers is developed. This relationship allows for the control over the web outgassing pressure. The ability to adjust the web tension pressure, as well as the selection of web transporting rollers with prescribed surface characteristics, allows an operator to control the degree to which the web floats over or tracks the web transporting roller. A controller, in response to pressure and tension sensors, can also provide dynamic, closed-loop control of the entire system.

摘要： A point of sale printer is provided with a large paper supply roll mounted externally from the printer. The printer includes a paper drive which rapidly accelerates and decelerates a paper web extending from the paper supply roll. A tensioning roll is moved in one direction to feed the web into the printer during the relatively slow acceleration of the paper supply roll and in an opposite direction to prevent a tangle of paper as the paper supply roll is decelerated after the printer stops moving the paper web. A cable assembly is provided to facilitate loading the large paper supply roll. A braking spring helps to decelerate the paper supply roll and further engages a flap formed in an outer end of the paper web to thread this end of the web into the printer.
