摘要: A cable feed device for feeding a cable to a cable processing machine includes a first rotatable roller and a second rotatable roller for guiding the cable such that the cable can be arranged in a loop around the first roller and the second roller, and a cable drive for transporting the cable. The first roller is arranged stationary, wherein the second roller can be pushed or pulled away from the first roller with a force, wherein the second roller has a first state and a second state, wherein the second roller is locked in a first position in the first state and is moved in the second state by the force such that the distance between the first roller and the second roller changes depending on the length of the cable between the two rollers.

摘要: An apparatus for uniformly applying a compressive force against a filament to pneumatically drive the filament or fiber optic cable against a capstan without any concentrated amount of stress at any point on the filament is effectuated by pneumatically forcing the filament into an equatorial V-groove defined in the capstan. Pneumatic pressure is applied to a predefined segment of the capstan by a pneumatic shoe having an internal shoe pressure chamber. The pressurized gas or air is applied to the segment from the chamber within the shoe into the proximity of the equatorial V-groove on the equator of a disc shaped capstan. The V-groove is vented to atmosphere so that the cable is forced or blown into the V-groove. Side and end clearances between the rotating capstan and the shoe are sized to allow the viscosity of the pressurized gas to operate to retard the escape of the pressurized gas from the predefined segment of the capstan. Annular interleaved baffles may also be provided on the equatorial surface of the capstan and the opposing surface of the shoe to provide additional frictional engagement between the pressurized gas and the elements in the proximity of the predetermined segment of the capstan. Utilizing such an arrangement, approximately 10 kilometers or more of filament can be paid out in approximately 32 seconds or less.

摘要: A cable drive system for driving a cable includes a rotatable inflatable member. Sets of guide rollers are positioned about the periphery of the inflatable member, and each of the sets of rollers includes at least two rollers for guiding the cable to maintain the cable substantially in contact with the inflatable member, and to cause the cable to be wound helically about the inflatable member. A fluid supply is used to inflate or deflate the inflatable member to vary the normal force applied to the cable. The inflatable member may be similar to an automobile tire and supported on a wheel through which the inflatable member is rotatably driven. During deployment or retrieval of the cable, the frictional drive force on the cable can be controllably varied by inflating or deflating the inflatable member to vary the normal force applied to the cable. Since the frictional drive force is equal to the product of the normal force and the coefficient of friction, the normal force can be varied to take into account desired changes in the frictional drive force or changes in the coefficient of friction.

摘要: Planetary wire-feeding device having a housing containing rollers which freely rotate about axles arranged at an angle to each other and crossing the electrode wire being fed by the mechanism. In one embodiment disclosed herein the housing is of spherical form and is made of two identical hemispherical parts interconnected by means of connecting means which are placed in tension. Two opposite coaxial holes the geometrical axis of which lies at the contact plane between the two hemispherical parts of the housing are formed in the hemispheres. The unit for thrusting the opposed rollers toward each other and into engagement with the wire is formed as a support seat formed in each hemispherical part of the housing, the seats being parallel to the contact plane between such hemispherical parts. The limiting cylindrical part of the support and guiding component is mounted at the opposite ends of the support and guiding component in the two coaxial holes in the housing and the central hub thereof rests in the cylindrical seat provided in each hemispherical part above the supporting seat.
