The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a product based on a phosphate of at least one element M(IV), for example of thorium and/or of actinide(IV)(s). This process comprises the following stages: a) mixing a solution of thorium(IV) and/or of at least one actinide(IV) with a phosphoric acid solution in amounts such that the molar ratio PO 4 M ( IV ) is from 1.4 to 2, b) heating the mixture of the solutions in a closed container at a temperature of 50 to 250° C. in order to precipitate a product comprising a phosphate of at least one element M chosen from thorium(IV) and actinide(IV)s having a P/M molar ratio of 1.5, and c) separating the precipitated product from the solution. The precipitate can be converted to phosphate/diphosphate of thorium and of actinide(s). The process also applies to the separation of uranyl ions from other cations.

There is disclosed a process for preparing novel tacking agents for glass fiber insulation. The tacking agent solution is prepared by adding a condensed phosphate to an aqueous solution of aluminum orthophosphate to provide a homogeneous solution having an Al:P molar ratio of less than 1, preferably 1:3 and wherein the amount of condensed phosphate comprises from about 25 to about 75 percent of the total phosphate in the solution. The tacking agent is applied to glass fiber in the preparation of insulating articles and then heated to convert the tacking agent into a non-hygroscopic, water insoluble, amorphous, condensed aluminum phosphate polymer. The tacking agent resiliently tacks the glass fibers together so as to provide regain of shape after deformation of the fibers as by compression.

An energy storage composition can be used as a new Na-ion battery cathode material. The energy storage composition with an alluaudite phase of AxTy(PO4)z, NaxTy(PO4)z, Na1.702Fe3(PO4)3 and Na0.872Fe3(PO4)3, is described including the hydrothermal synthesis, crystal structure, and electrochemical properties. After ball milling and carbon coating, the compositions described herein demonstrate a reversible capacity, such as about 140.7 mAh/g. In addition these compositions exhibit good cycling performance (93% of the initial capacity is retained after 50 cycles) and excellent rate capability. These alluaudite compounds represent a new cathode material for large-scale battery applications that are earth-abundant and sustainable.
