摘要: An air infiltration system for a hydroelectric plant includes a spillway gate and a linearized cone valve coupled to the spillway gate, the linearized cone valve having a pivotable plate assembly. The spillway gate may be a tainter or Stoney gate and the pivotable plate assembly may have a deflection plate. A method of infiltrating air in water released from an impoundment may include: lifting a spillway gate from a resting position proximate a bottom of a spillway; and pivoting a deflection plate coupled to the gate proximate the bottom of the spillway; wherein water flows through an opening disposed between the deflection plate and the gate and is sprayed into an atmosphere to be oxygenated.

摘要: Disclosed is a system and method for treating wastewater. The system includes a bioreactor which defines a basin for receiving wastewater to be treated; a membrane module in fluid communication with the bioreactor; and a dissolution tank. The tank includes a pressure vessel that contains a portion of the wastewater to be treated and provides a regulated, pressurized gas head space above the wastewater. The tank also includes at least one liquid spray nozzle that permits passage of the wastewater into the gas head space of the pressure vessel and an outlet for discharging the wastewater having a desired gas concentration from the pressure vessel. The system also includes a pumping mechanism for supplying the wastewater to the spray nozzle of the tank such that fluid droplets are formed in the gas head space and the gas contained within the pressurized head space is dissolved into the wastewater.

摘要: A method and composition for enhancing the biodegradation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil, water, and/or sludge are disclosed. The composition comprises an adduct of urea with a non-ionic surfactant and a phosphorous source. The disclosed method provides for the application of a degradation effective amount of a composition which comprises a N:P ratio which ranges from 10:2 to about 10:0.5 and the urea and non-ionic surfactant are present in the adduct in a weight ratio ranging from 98:2 to 75:25. Further, the method of biodegradation is carried out by the application of the composition to provide for a C:N:P ratio of 100:10:1 to 100:1:001. The C:N:P ratio is based on the weight percent of the hydrocarbon contaminate in the soil, water and/or sludge sites to be treated. Surfactants which are useful in the disclosed composition and method have from about 2 to fifty ethylene oxide groups; and comprise such compounds as alkylethoxylates, alkyl ethoxylated phosphates, alkyl ethoxylated amines, alkylethoxylated ammonium salts, etc.

摘要: New techniques and means for their utilization are described for substantially improving gas to liquid transfer including aeration of hydroelectric project tailwaters and treatment of sewage sludge and sewage treatment effluent or other wastewaters. Liquid flow is directed over an infuser device to separate the liquid into a plurality of free-falling curtains disposed to impinge upon a collection pool therebeneath wherein a substantial number of gas bubbles entrained by any particular curtain are acted upon by successive impingements of downstream curtains to effect turbulent interaction, shearing, and reentrainment of such bubbles and substantially increase the residence time thereof in the resulting recombined flow.

摘要: A method and apparatus are described for providing improved irrigation to vegetation in open areas such as parks and golf courses, including providing improved microbiotic and nutrient supplies to such vegetation in a non-sterilized environment. In its method aspects, the invention comprises combining in an aqueous slurry effective amounts of first and second microorganisms, enzymes and nutrients, allowing the combined microorganisms to grow in a closed reservoir to reach levels of concentrations of the first and second microorganisms effective for irrigation, enhancement and nutrition of vegetation, and then applying the concentrated materials to the vegetation in a water slurry in quantities sufficient to effectively irrigate and provide nutrition to the vegetation and to provide it with protection against harmful microorganisms. Apparatus is described for the performance of the method, and includes an enhancement vessel adapted to retain the combined materials for a time sufficient for the first and second microorganisms to increase in concentration to provide a significant degree of nutrition and protection against harmful microorganisms to vegetation to which they are applied; and a conduit to convey the slurry to the vegetation and to apply it to the vegetation in effective quantities. Typical of the applications for which this invention can be used is the irrigation, protection and nutrition of vegetation for golf course, parks and other landscaped areas, to enhance the growth and physical condition of the vegetation of the course or park.

摘要: An arrangement for the destruction of foam building up on a sewage surface in form of activated sludge, in which a reaction vessel holds the suspended foam. The reaction vessel has perforated plates which may be raised and lowered. The reaction vessel is furthermore provided with an inlet pipe connection for untreated sewage, and a discharge pipe for the treated suspension. The reaction vessel is closed off at its upper side by a plate member which has at least one flow-through opening. A nozzle located within an enclosure, is connected to this flow-through opening. The nozzle has a lower wall and an upper wall disposed at an acute angle relative to one another. The lower wall and the upper wall of nozzle, furthermore, have adjacent edges forming an outlet opening of the nozzles. One of the walls of the nozzle is pivotably movable relative to the other wall.
