摘要: Provided herein are various methods for forming alkylaromatic sulfonate compositions and blended alkylaromatic sulfonate compositions, and such compositions themselves. The methods of various embodiments include obtaining a C8-C30 hydrocarbon mixture, optionally treating the mixture to concentrate the mixture in sulfonatable aromatics, and sulfonating the mixture to form the alkylaromatic sulfonates. The mixture or treated mixture may be blended with linear alkyl benzene (LAB) compositions and sulfonated, and/or the alkylaryl sulfonates may be blended with linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) compositions, to form the blended alkylaromatic sulfonates of some embodiments. These compositions and processes for making them may be tailored to serve a variety of end uses, such as detergents in cleaning solutions or for enhanced oil recovery operations, and/or as low foaming and/or hydrotropic additives in detergent formulations, and the like.

摘要: An improved process for production of phenylalkylsulfonate compounds whereby the proportion of the 2-alkylphenylsulfonate isomer is reduced relative to the higher numbered isomers thereof (3-alkyl; 4-alkyl; etc.). After alkylation of aromatic compounds to produce a mixture of alkylbenzenes, the 2-alkylbenzene isomer is selectively cracked to lower boiling products, leaving the higher numbered isomers substantially unreacted. Subsequent sulfonation results in alkylphenylsulfonate derivatives having improved detergency properties.

摘要: Disclosed is a continuous process for the sulfonation of an alkylaromatic reactant involving heating liquid sulfur trioxide in a vaporizer and mixing this sulfur trioxide gas stream with a hexane-alkylaromatic stream containing about 1 to about 3 wt. % quantity of a promoter, which can be either sulfuric acid or an alkyl benzene sulfonic acid, in a sulfonator - static inline mixer, mixing water with the sulfonated product as it passes to the water reactor - static inline mixer, passing the aqueous sulfonated product through degassing column-heat exchanger apparatus and separating the sulfonated product from the aqueous sulfuric acid. The reaction is conducted under controlled temperature and pressure conditions.

摘要: Aromatic sulfonates having, respectively, preferential oil-, and water- and alcohol-solubility are prepared by reacting aromatic compounds and sulfuric acid in a medium capable of liquid-liquid extraction with water; the product stream is then subjected to countercurrent extraction against water in a first multi-stage column; the water stream is next subjected to countercurrent extraction against a water-immiscible higher alcohol in a second multi-stage column; and the sulfonate having preferential water- and alcohol-solubility, which has transferred from the product stream, to the water stream, and finally to the higher alcohol, is recovered from the latter as the free acid or as a salt thereof. The process is especially adapted to the production of dinonylnaphthalene disulfonic acid.

摘要: An improved process for producing metal salts of organosulfonic acids comprises reacting the sulfonic acid with a slight excess of the corresponding metal carbonate until the carbonate/acid equilibrium point is reached, i.e., the pH of a substantially carbonate- and bicarbonate-free sample stabilizes in the range of 6.0 to 6.38, and then adding a very small amount of stronger base to effect complete neutralization of the remainder of the sulfonic acid.
