A polycarbonate resin composition for use in the production of a substrate for an optical information medium, comprising (A) an aromatic polycarbonate resin having a weight average molecular weight of from 13,000 to 18,000, wherein the aromatic polycarbonate resin (A) is produced by subjecting an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic diester to a transesterification reaction, and is substantially free of a chlorine atom; and (B) a partial ester obtained from a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid having 10 to 30 carbon atoms and a di- to hexahydric alcohol, wherein the partial ester (B) has an acid value of from 2 to 20 mgKOH.

Novel ultraviolet absorbing compounds that are liquid in nature, are low in color (and thus permit use without the concomitant necessity of adding large amounts of other coloring agents to combat such discoloring), and are highly effective in providing protection in wavelength ranges for which previous attempts at low-color ultraviolet absorbers have failed are provided herein. Such compounds provide such excellent, inexpensive, and beneficial protection from ultraviolet exposure within various media, including, but not limited to, clear thermoplastics. The particular compounds are generally polymeric in nature including various chain lengths of polyoxyalkylenes thereon and are liquid in nature to facilitate handling and introduction within the target media. In addition, such ultraviolet absorbers also exhibit extremely low migratory properties thereby providing long-term protective benefits to the target media as well. This invention also concerns the end products, specific broadly defined types of compounds providing such beneficial characteristics, methods of making such low-color compounds, and methods of producing such clear, UV protected end products.

A polycarbonate composition comprising 100 parts by weight of an aromatic polycarbonate, 0.005 to 0.2 part by weight of an ester of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having 10 to 25 carbon atoms and an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, and 0.015 to 0.3 part by weight of a first aromatic compound which is an aromatic ether, ester or carbonate compound having at least four benzene rings in the molecule, wherein the above ester is contained in the above range to ensure that the first aromatic compound is contained in a deposit on the polymer contacting surface of a metal mold in an amount of 0.5 to 3 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of the ester when a 120 mm x 50 mm board having a thickness of 2 mm is injection molded at a cylinder temperature of 380null C., a mold temperature of 80null C., an injection speed of 200 mm/sec and a holding pressure of 3,432 kPa (35 kgf/cm2). This composition has excellent mold releasability and thermal stability at the time of molding.

The present invention relates to a cross-linkable or cross-linked rubber composition usable in a tread of a tire, and to a tire incorporating this tread. A rubber composition according to the invention is based on at least one diene elastomer, and a plasticizer comprising a glycerol oleic acid triester, said plasticizer comprises: one or more synthetic and/or natural compounds not extracted from petroleum in a mass fraction of from 45% to 100%, said compounds comprising at least one glycerol fatty acid triester, and the fatty acid(s) as a whole comprise oleic acid in a mass fraction equal to or greater than 60%, and one or more paraffinic, aromatic or naphthenic type plasticizing oils extracted from petroleum in a mass fraction of from 55% to 0%. The invention applies in particular to tires of passenger-vehicle type.

These objects and others may be accomplished with the present invention, the first embodiment of which provides an oil-in-water nanoemulsion, which includes: an oily phase dispersed in an aqueous phase; (i) at least one amphiphilic lipid selected from the group including nonionic amphiphilic lipids, anionic amphiphilic lipids, and combinations thereof; and (ii) at least one water-soluble nonionic polymer selected from the group including homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene oxide; polyvinyl alcohols; homopolymers and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone; homopolymers and copolymers of vinylcaprolactam; homopolymers and copolymers of polyvinyl methyl ether; neutral acrylic homopolymers and copolymers; C1-C2 alkyl celluloses and their derivatives; C1-C3 alkyl guar; C1-C3 hydroxyalkyl guar; and combinations thereof; wherein a ratio of the weight of the oily phase to the weight of the amphiphilic lipid (i) ranges from 1.2 to 10; and wherein the oily phase includes oil globules having a number-average size of less than 100 nm.
