摘要: This invention relates to a process applying a water-repellent and/or waterproof coating to at least one side or the inside of shaped elements, which are obtained in that starch-containing compositions are baked between two mould halves or are extruded. That process is characterized in that a lacquer which in addition to one or more low-boiling solvents which are miscible with water and are innocuous from the aspect of human and/or ecotoxicology and one or more rottable film-forming substances and one or more rottable hydrophobic plasticizers is applied and during the application of said lacquer the adsorbed water of hydration is removed from the surface layer of the shaped element which is to be coated, whereafter the solvent mixture is removed which a minimum moisture content from 5% by weight to one at which there is no odour maintained in the substrate. Suitable film-forming substances include alkyl celluloses and non-hydrophobic water-insoluble cellulose esters of the group consisting of cellulose acetate butyrates, cellulose acetate propionates and cellulose acetates. Suitable plasticizers include hydrophobic triglycerides of fatty acids having medium and long chain lengths (chain lengths larger than or equal to C4), triglycerides partly substituted with substituents having shorter chain lengths, and, provided that at least one fatty acid having a chain length larger than or equal to C14 is contained, phthalic acid esters, acylic dicarboxylic acid esters, fully esterified citric acid esters, saccharose acetate isobutyrate and other hydrophobic sugar esters.

摘要: A water based fluid that can be utilized in a standard inkjet printer to image a lithographic printing plate. The water based fluid may include a polymer that is soluble in an alkaline aqueous media and that is resistant to neutral or acidic aqueous media. In addition, the water based fluid may include a sufficient volume of water soluble material to raise the pH level higher than 8. Further, the water based fluid may include a sufficient volume of humectant co-solvents to prevent the nozzles of an inkjet printer from drying out. The water based fluid may be used to image a lithographic plate that include an inkjet ink accepting hydrophilic layer hydrophilic properties. Various embodiments of the water based fluid advantageously allow a plate to be imaged, and then without baking or adding other chemical treatments, the plate can be immediately used for printing.

摘要: A method of forming the aqueous-based shellac dispersion includes dissolving a shellac solution in a basic aqueous solvent to form a shellac solution and subsequently combining the shellac solution with an acidic aqueous solution, whereby the shellac precipitates to form the aqueous-based shellac dispersion. A film can be formed by applying the shellac dispersion to a suitable surface and exposing the dispersion to conditions which cause a substantial portion of the shellac particles in the dispersion to fuse, thereby forming a shellac film on the surface. The shellac film does not include any organic solvent for the shellac or any amine-containing shellac salt. A plasticizer can be employed to form a continuous shellac coating on a substrate at significantly reduced temperatures.
