Abstract: An alignment device for measuring orientation of a drill rig having a chuck is disclosed. The device can comprise a tubular housing having a cylindrical outer surface and defining an inner bore. The tubular housing can be configured to be receivable into the chuck of the drill rig. A gyroscopic orientation sensor can be disposed within the tubular housing. The gyroscopic orientation sensor can be configured to provide a signal indicative of an orientation of the alignment device. A wireless transmitter can be in communication with the gyroscopic orientation sensor. The wireless transmitter can be configured to transmit a wireless output indicative of the orientation of the alignment device.

Abstract: A gooseneck conduit assembly includes a gooseneck conduit including a vertically-extending portion, an upset formed on the vertically-extending portion, an alignment key extending laterally from the vertically-extending portion, and a lower coupling at a lower end of the vertically-extending portion; a second conduit configured to connect to an auxiliary fluid line connected to and extending along a riser string that extends to a subsea wellhead, the second conduit including a receiving end configured to form a connection with the lower coupling; and a frame configured to be connected to the riser string. The frame includes an upper bracket vertically offset from a lower bracket to which the second conduit is secured, an alignment groove configured to slidably receive the alignment key so as to maintain a coaxial alignment between the vertically-extending portion of the gooseneck conduit and the second conduit, and a locking member pivotally coupled to the upper bracket.

Abstract: A technique facilitates assembly of well equipment at a wellsite. To help lift certain types of well tools, a mounting frame may be releasably coupled to a well string, e.g. a coiled tubing string. A cable guide and a cable attachment member may be releasably coupled to a well tool which is to be moved into engagement with the well string. A cable may be routed from the cable attachment member, through the cable guide, to a cable mounting feature of the mounting frame, and to a winch. The winch is operable to draw in the cable so as to move the well tool into alignment with and up into engagement with a connector of the well string.

Abstract: Systems and methods for proper orientation of the connections of a tubing hanger and a subsea assembly in a wellhead or tree are provided. The alignment is accomplished with the use of an orientation spool adaptor equipped with positional sensors and an orientation helix. Calibration of the positional sensors at the surface allows for orientation with simple vertical deployment. Positional sensors may provide real time data such as location, speed of installation and orientation back to the surface.

Abstract: Methods for real-time coiled tubing fatigue monitoring can establish a remaining operational life of a coiled tubing strand. Standard or low-cycle plastic fatigue in bending is measured each time the coiled tubing strand is deployed through a guide arch. Also, smaller, but higher frequency loads, e.g., high cycle loads imparted to the coiled tubing strand due to interaction with an oceanic environment, are also measured. A plurality of weight detectors may be coupled to a support frame below the guide for monitoring the high-cycle loads. The remaining operational life of the coiled tubing strand may be calculated based on both the plastic strains using a low-cycle fatigue analysis and the elastic strains using a high-cycle fatigue analysis. An operator may retire a coiled tubing strand prior to failure based on the calculated remaining operational life.

Abstract: A tool configured to align a polished rod within a carrier bar of a pumpjack is described. While this tool can include any suitable component, in some cases, it includes a cylindrical member having an internal conduit, allowing the cylindrical member to wrap around and receive the polished rod. In some cases, the cylindrical member has a top having a first outer diameter, and a bottom having a second, larger outer diameter. In some cases, the cylindrical member comprises one, two, or more discrete pieces. In some cases, a flange extends horizontally from the bottom of the cylindrical member, to be disposed at a bottom portion of the carrier bar. In some cases, the cylindrical member comprises a slit that extends from the top to the bottom of the cylindrical member to allow the member to be opened and to receive the polished rod. Abstract: A guide mechanism may include a first jaw and a second jaw pivotably coupled to the first jaw. The jaws may include a guide having a bottom pocket for seating arrangement on a box end of a first tubular and a top funnel for laterally guiding a pin end of a second tubular into the box end. The guide mechanism may also include a linkage system secured to the first and second jaws to control pivoting motion of the jaws. The guide mechanism may also include a bias mechanism coupled to the linkage system and configured to impart a biasing force on the jaws via the linkage system. The biasing force may be adapted to resist opening of the jaws such that opening of the jaws occurs when a lateral force is applied to the guide mechanism that overcomes the biasing force.
