A distributor for an internal combustion engine has a housing, a shaft inserted in the housing, a head mounted on the shaft, a cap attached to the housing so as to cover the rotor head, a signal detector accommodated in the housing, a connector projecting outside the housing, and an ignition coil accommodated in the housing. The housing has a cut-out portion formed in a side wall thereof from an abutment between the cap and the housing and extending toward the bottom of the housing for receiving the connector, and the cap and the connector are tightly engaged with the housing through a gasket. Silicon rubber is charged in the gap between the housing and the ignition coil. A heat release plate may be provided between the housing and the signal detector so that a path formed by the plate and the housing and surrounding a section of the core is electrically cut off, whereby no current flows in the path.

A distributor cap has external terminals 23, 24 and inner electrodes 25, 26 disposed on a cap main body, and electrical conductors 28, 35 are embedded in the cap main body for sequential power distribution by a rotor of the distributor. Some of the conductors are coated with electrically insulating sheath members 36 which have insulating bridge members 38 bridging the sheath members on adjacent ones of the conductors. The bridge members have formed thereon positioning projections 37 for limiting the movement of the conductors out of predetermined positions during the molding of the cap body, whereby substantially no surface discharge occurs.

The extension wall of the cap having an inner end slightly spaced from the annular rim of the rotor flange to form a second annular passage for communication between the annular and rotor spaces. The annular space is communicated with a source of negative pressure to discharge the air therefrom, while the rotor space is communicated with the atmospheric air to introduce fresh air thereinto.

A distributor cap for use in an internal combustion engine includes the ignition cable 5 having at one end thereof a terminal member 9. A bonding member 10 is molded from a hot-melt adhesive resin such as to bury both the terminal member and a portion of the ignition cable in the vicinity of the one end. A connecting member 11 is integrally secured to the bonding member, the connecting member being molded from a resin having the same quality as that of the resin employed to form the distributor cap. The connecting member is adapted to receive a longitudinally intermediate portion of the terminal member such that a distal end portion 9" of the terminal member is exposed to the outside. A tower portion 4 of the distributor cap is formed with a recess 15 which receives the connecting member. Further, the connecting member is fitted into the recess and is integrally welded to the tower portion.
