摘要:
An improved gun barrel and firing mechanism or ''''power head'''' for use in association with a thrust pole, spear of the like as an impact-actuated underwater gun. The firing mechanism comprises a relatively movable detonating plunger removably coaxially attachable to a thrust pole or the like at one end and carrying a firing pin at the other end which is operative to detonate a cartridge fitted in the gun barrel upon impact of the barrel muzzle, due to the momentum of said pole member in overriding the outward thrust of a compression spring acting between the gun barrel and the detonating plunger. A safety lock pin serves to retain the detonating plunger and its associated thrust pole in its relatively outward, non-detonating position until such time as the gun is to be used.

A powerhead which comprises a cylindrical barrel to receive and retain a cartridge. The barrel is placed over a cylindrical head attached to the end of a fishing spear. The head is capped with a firing pin which is held spaced from the cartridge rim and in cocked position by at least one friction ring interposed between the barrel and the head. The cartridge is fired by thrusting the spear to jam the outer end of the barrel into the shark or fish, thereby pushing the barrel back past the friction ring to where the firing pin on the head strikes the cap of the cartridge. The kit comprises a mount which is strapped on the fisherman''s arm and is provided with several of these loaded powerheads and an ordinary spear tip which may also be placed on the end of the spear and held by at least one friction ring. This permits the fisherman to fish with the usual spear tip, but in the event of the appearance of a shark or other predators, rapidly to substitute a loaded powerhead for such spear tip.

A powerhead mounting bracket is connected to a diver's breathing tank support. A cord connected to the receiver has a plug with a projection for loosely fitting in an axial bore of the powerhead. The plug is placed in the axial bore and the powerhead shaft is placed between the flanges on the receiver. The sling at the other end of the powerhead is stretched, forcing the powerhead tight against the plug, and the stretched spring is hooked into slots in the receiver. The stretched sling holds the shaft of the powerhead against the base of the receiver and holds the powerhead longitudinally against the plug. When required for use, the powerhead shaft is grasped near the firing end and is pushed in a direction towards the sling, further stretching the sling. When the plug drops out of the axial bore, the shaft is pulled outward from the receiver, allowing the sling to become untensioned, whereupon the sling drops out of the slot in the receiver.

A projectile including an elongated tubular body having an open fore end portion defining a gun bore and an intermediate portion defining a chamber communicating with the gun bore for receiving an ammunition cartridge. A firing pin is slidably disposed within the tubular body rearwardly of the chamber therein and is adapted to be shifted forwardly within the tubular body to engage the primer of an ammunition cartridge housed within the chamber upon fore end contact of the projectile body with a target to cause detonation of the ammunition cartridge.

A carrier projectile for aerodynamically braked submunition which can be ejected rearwardly from the tail end of the carrier projectile while contacting a cup-shaped base of the projectile. The carrier projectile has the inner edge of the fabric of a braking sail retained within the cup-shaped recess of the base of the projectile, with the outer edge of the fabric of the sail being equipped with centrifugal masses or flyweights mounted in proximity to the opening of the cup-shaped recess in the base. Provision is made to arrange the fabric of a radially outwardly tensionable braking sail in the already available recess in the base of the projectile, the braking sail being extended through the pulling action exerted thereon from the centrifugal flyweights.

A Power head for a fishing spear comprising a chamber to house an explosive cartridge open at one end, and a firing mechanism detachably secured to the other end of the chamber, said mechanism comprising a cylinder having two pistons slidably mounted therein and spaced apart, said first piston being connected to a piston rod projecting from the end of the cylinder remote from the chamber and said second piston being fitted with a firing pin adapted to act on a cartridge in the chamber, said cylinder being provided with a plurality of spaced ports through which water can enter and fill the space in the cylinder between the pistons, the first ports being adapted to be closed as the first piston moves along the cylinder towards the chamber and the second ports being adapted to be closed as the second piston moves in the same direction, the movement of the second piston being effected through water trapped in the cylinder between the two pistons after the first ports have been closed.

A multipurpose powerhead having a barrel member internally shaped with a chamber for receiving a cartridge is coupled to an axially aligned body member. A firing pin member projects above the surface of the body member and reaches into the cartridge chamber. A cylindrically shaped mass having an axial bore is slidably carried on the body member and a helical biasing spring urges the mass toward the firing pin member. When the powerhead is deployed by a rapidly accelerating surgical-rubber-tubing speargun, the inertial drag of the cylindrical mass overcomes the biasing force of the biasing spring. A resiliently mounted spur secured to the cylindrical mass overrides and engages a retaining rim to cock the powerhead during the deployment stage. When the muzzle of the barrel member impacts against a target, such as a large fish, the powerhead is arrested from further travel. Meanwhile, the forward momentum of the cylindrical mass pulls the resiliently mounted spur from its engaged position on the annular retaining rim. This forward momentum is augmented by the biasing force of the biasing spring which accelerates the cylindrical mass toward the firing pin member at an increasing velocity. The combined force attributed to the forward momentum and the biasing force is sufficient to detonate the cartridge when the cylindrical mass strikes the firing pin. Having all the moving parts exposed to the ambient water prevents the collection of impurities and the consequent jamming of the powerhead.

A firearm device or powerhead for use underwater by a diver and is especially useful for killing sharks etc. The powerhead is attached to a rod that serves as a handle. It is used in a manner similar to a spear. Upon contact, a cartridge is exploded and enters the target.

Underwater ammunition is disclosed, in which a flechette projectile is enclosed within the air-filled bore of a watertight sealed disposable barrel adapted to be removably inserted into a carrier cylinder or block for firing. The projectile is suspended by and between a rear-end-cradling pusher sabot, and a frangible guiding-and-supporting unit including a soft rubber nosesupporting cradle slug having a forward relieved surface. A propellant charge and percussion primer are disposed rearwardly of the pusher sabot which is initially anchored by a shear pin, and the projectile is propelled forward by primer ignition of the propellant to shear the shear pin and impart forward motion to the pusher sabot, which in turn drives the projectile through a frangible sealed front barrel convexly domed cover. Forward motion of the sabot is stopped by successive incremental energy absorption through the shearing of an external helical shear thread on the forward section of the pusher sabot at the forward end of its travel, the shearing and compaction of which shear thread, as well as the resultant compaction of a soft malleable length of material in the thread grooves, also seals in the propellant gases within the barrel bore at the end of the sabot forward travel. One or more pressure dropping annular expansion grooves on the rear section of the pusher sabot are employed to obviate blowby of propellant gases during forward motion of the sabot.
