    摘要: An ultra-miniature, electro-mechanical, MEMS type safe and arming (S&A) device for medium- or large-artillery rounds, including, three sequenced S&A interlocks: a setback slider which provides a 1st interlock with respect to an arming slider which moves due to the round's spin; a stop and release mechanism that holds the arming slider until a release command signal is initiated by the fuze circuit, triggering a spot charge which generates an expanding gas wave that flexes the latch arm from contact with the safety catch, unlocking the 2nd interlock, thereby freeing the arming slider to continue its motion into an arming position, unlocking the 3rd interlock, and aligning the parts of the firetrain within the device, such that upon signal from the fuze circuit to an output charge, the device will ignite the acceptor charge within the round.

    摘要: A miniature, planar, inertially-damped, inertially-actuated delay slider uator is micromachined on a substrate and consists of a "slider", with zig-zag or stair-step-like patterns on the side edges, interacting with similar vertical-edged zig-zag patterns on "racks" which are positioned across a small gap on each side. The slider has been released from the substrate, and is captured vertically in its track by a non-interfering lattice or cover or other feature that bridges across from the top of one rack to the other. The racks are fixed to the substrate and the slider is forced axially down the "track" by an inertial load in the slider's axial direction. The slider is drawn along the track such that the "teeth" on the right edge of the slider engage with the teeth on the right rack. The slider is forced to move to the left as it slides down the faces on the right rack, until it is thrown clear of the right rack and goes across to engage similarly with the left rack. In this way the slider zig-zags under the continuing inertial forces as it also moves axially down the track toward the objective function. The time it takes to do this is the programmed delay. The objective function is anything the slider can act upon, such as a switch, a latch, a light beam, a capacitive pickup, etc.

    摘要: A spin stabilized projectile (16) containing a high explosive bursting charge (24) is provided with a safing and arming mechanism (20) comprising a safety barrier (48) for blocking the firing train between the detonator (38) and the charge (24), and two mechanical components for restraining and releasing the barrier. The two mechanical components include a conventional setback tab (76), which is responsive to forces of linear acceleration during launching of the projectile (16), and a delayed action lock ball device (67, 68), which is responsive to centrifugal forces after the projectile (16) has begun to spin. The delay in the response of the lock ball device (67, 68) to the centrifugal forces is accomplished by means of a creep ribbon (54) which prevents release of the barrier (48) until the ribbon (54) has undergone a predetermined amount of time-dependent deformation.

    摘要: A fuse for an explosive shell comprises a body having a longitudinal axis, a hood unit fitting over the body and movable along the body vertical axis between a first position and a second position, and a parachute linked to the hood unit for pulling the hood unit from its first position to its second position when the explosive shell is released. A slide catch is housed in the body and is moveable in a direction perpendicular to the body perpendicular axis from an unprimed to a primed position. A primary detonator is housed in the slide catch. The primary detonator is out of alignment with the main charge of the explosive shell when the slide catch is in its unprimed position, and is in alignment with the main charge of the explosive shell when the slide catch is in its primed position. A safety catch holds the slide catch in its unprimed position until it is released by inertial forces acting on the fuze. A firing pin detonates the primary detonator. The firing pin has an upper portion fixedly housed in the hood unit and a lower portion slidably housed in the body. The lower portion is moveable along the body longitudinal axis between a first and a second position in response to the movement of the hood unit between its first and second positions.

    摘要: A safing and arming device mounted inside the shell of small caliber ammunition for normally forming a barrier between a detonator and an explosive train contained in the shell. A soft wire of lead, aluminum or plastic material, embedded in a groove in the top of the barrier normally holds it against movement. As the result of high spin, the barrier is forced to move so as to open a path between said detonator and explosive train to enable arming after a safe delay. The barrier may be two halves tied together by the soft wire of stretchable material which will slowly stretch as the result of high spin and ultimately break, allowing the halves to move apart radially to open the path. A modification of the barrier is to normally position it eccentrically of the center of gravity, at which location it forms a barrier. High spin will effect cutting of the wire and movement of the barrier to a non-blocking position.

    摘要: In a weapon subject to a sequence of high acceleration followed by high spin and including a detonator and an explosive charge; the improvement comprising a barrier located between the detonator and explosive charge to normally form an obstruction to prevent accidental detonation of the explosive charge by the detonator. Mechanical locking means are provided to lock the barrier in place, comprising a spirally wound ribbon, a pair of pins restraining the outer surface of the ribbon to prevent premature unwinding, and a pair of superimposed anti-friction balls mounted on a hub portion of the ribbon, the upper ball being seated in an extension portion of the barrier. When the weapon is fired from a gun, the high acceleration will remove the pins and allow the ribbon to unwind. Upon unwinding the entire ribbon, the balls will be released and the barrier under the action of spin, will be removed to provide an unobstructed path between the detonator and explosive charge.

    摘要: A safing and arming mechanism which is adapted for use with a mechanical fuze, and which is armed only after having been subjected to the combined and total effects of a spin environment and of an aerodynamic deceleration environment, with the existence of the environments being either separate or simultaneous. The mechanism includes a rotor and a rotor spring which will arm the mechanism only at a higher static spin rate than a lockweight component of the mechanism. Because of a delay disc-lockweight interlock structural feature, the complete arming sequence of the mechanism is prevented until the necessary spin and deceleration environments exist. When this environmental combination is achieved, the lockweight moves before the rotor can return; and, that results in the release of the rotor and the arming of the mechanism.
