Abstract: A measuring device determines the outer circumferential length of a rod-like item at its wind-up section. The wind-up section includes a roll paper supply part that provides continuous roll paper to a constituent part of the rod-like item and a wind-up part that wraps the constituent part with the supplied roll paper to form the rod-like item. The roll paper supply part consists of a first measuring part that assesses the paper width in the width direction crossing the roll paper's longitudinal direction, a second measuring part that measures the overlap width of the part overlapped by the roll paper around the rod-like item, and a calculating part that computes the outer circumferential length based on the differential width obtained by subtracting the overlap width from the paper width.

Abstract: A system for winding a rolled product includes a winder having a winding spool, a spool rotator, a distributor guiding positioning of the rolled product towards the spool at an instantaneous winding point, and a distributor translator. A control and command unit coordinates the rotator and the translator according to a predetermined winding program which is a function of predetermined reference operating parameters and of real time operating parameters. The detector includes a laser triangulation profilometer diametrically opposite to the distributor, and continuously detects the surface profile of the coil of rolled product at every added turn. A processing and calculation unit feedback adjusts translation speed of the distributor to minimize a difference between an actual operating parameter calculated based on the profile of the coil in formation detected by the profilometer and the same operating parameter calculated based on theoretical data related to a predetermined ideal coil winding.

Abstract: A deformation detection apparatus includes a cell movement-control assembly to handle a linear motion and a rotational motion of a battery cell, a body that supports the cell movement-control assembly, a digital micrometer, and control circuitry. The control circuitry controls a displacement of the battery cell between a first position and a second position along a longitudinal axis through a scanning region of the digital micrometer and a plurality of rotational positions of the battery cell at a plurality of charge states and a plurality of discharge states. The control circuitry measures a plurality of outer diameter values of the battery cell for a plurality of linear positions and a plurality of rotational positions along the longitudinal axis of the battery cell and determines a change in a geometrical shape (deformation and/or strain) of the battery cell for the plurality of linear positions and the plurality of rotational positions.

Abstract: A calibrated three-dimensional optical measuring apparatus for the three-dimensional measurement of geometric parameters of a rope has a frame defining and arranged around a rope receiving cavity. Abstract: A system and method for non-contact measurement of remaining spooled material. The system comprises at least one optical signal source configured to illuminate spooled material with an optical beam having an optical beam width that illuminates the material remaining in the spool. The optical beam width and spacing are such that spooled material is illuminated by each optical signal source. The system includes drive circuitry configured to drive the at least one optical signal source using pulses. The system further includes at least one optical signal receiver configured to receive light reflected from each of said light pulses. The system still further includes a processor configured to: establish a number and drive strength of the pulses; and cause measurements to be performed of the remaining spooled material.
