    摘要: The invention pertains to a method and apparatus for the electrochemical analysis of solutions which comprises the measurement of an electric signal between a mercury column in a capillary and a reference electrode which are in contact with the analyzed solution sucked into the capillary. The mercury column in the capillary pulsates during the measurement. Current or voltage may be measured as the electric signal. An apparatus for the analysis of microliter volumes of solutions comprises a vessel for the analyzed solution provided with an inlet and outlet of the analyzed solution and a reference electrode, one end of a capillary is connected to the vessel for the analyzed solution and the other end of the capillary is connected to means for suction and ejection of mercury. A pulsator is attached to the capillary for moving the column of mercury and an electric contact is built into the capillary in contact with the mercury column. A measuring device is provided to measure the electric signal between the reference electrode and the electric contact.

    摘要: A thin film polarographic oxygen sensor, in which a number of thin film microcathodes are deposited in holes in a thin film layer of silicon dioxide formed on a silicon substrate. A single thin film anode layer is deposited on the insulating layer and is insulated thereby from the cathodes. Preferably the microcathodes and the anode are located in a well in the thin film insulating layer, the well being filled flush to its surface with electrolyte, and having a thin film polymer filter membrane deposited thereover. Contacts to the anode and cathodes may be punched through a thin film insulating layer on the back of the wafer, the cathode contact being thereby connected to the substrate, and the anode contact being insulated from the substrate by an encircling thin film layer of silicon dioxide and extending through to the anode metallization layer. With appropriate choice of electrode, electrolyte and membrane materials, the cell may also be used as a pH sensor, a CO.sub.2 sensor, a specific ion sensor, or to detect or sense other substances in solution. Single electrode units may also be formed by depositing thin film electrode materials on appropriate substrates.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for testing the lubricating quality of oil. The apparatus comprises a pair of dissimilar, spaced-apart electrodes, a voltage indicator and circuitry interconnecting the electrodes and the voltage indicator. Upon placing an oil sample between and in contact with the electrodes, oxidation by-products in the oil, built up therein due to deterioration or breakdown of the oil, react with one of the electrodes to form an oxide thereof. The oxidation of the electrode produces a corresponding voltage reading which indicates the lubricating quality of the oil.
