    摘要: The present invention relates to the use of an image capture system having an electronic camera for platenless document imaging. The system comprises: an electronic camera with an electronic detector and a lens with a field of view for imaging on the detector a portion of a document; a support by which the camera can be positioned to view the document; an actuator for moving the camera field of view so that a plurality of overlapping image tiles of a document can be captured at predetermined different locations over the support surface, each image tile having an array of tile data points and being subject to some expected perspective and/or camera distortion relative to the support surface; and a processor by which the plurality of image tiles may be joined into a composite image of the document. The processor includes a memory which stores transform data for each image tile, the transform data relating both to the expected distortion and to the predetermined overlap between image tiles. The processor is adapted to use the transform data to generate from the tile data points a corrected array of tile data points with the distortion corrected and with the corrected image tiles correctly overlapped to form a composite image of the document.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for processing imagery using images acquired via any known Electro-Optical (EO) system. In accordance with exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a first frame of data is selected as a template frame (e.g., a given frame). A second frame of data can be captured using the EO system. At least a portion of the second frame can be correlated with the template frame to generate a shift vector. The second frame can then be registered with the template frame by interpolating the second frame using the shift vector and re-sampling at least a portion of the second frame to produce a registered frame. The template frame can also be re-sampled. The registered frame and the re-sampled template frame can then be combined to generate an averaged frame. The averaged frame can be spatially filtered to enhance edges within the averaged frame.

    摘要: A method of removing streaks from multi-band digital images is presented in which a multi-band image is transformed to an advantageous spectral space, in which a streak removal operation is applied to the image in the advantageous spectral space. The streak removal operation is a method of removing columnar streaks from a multi-band digital image of the type in which it is assumed that pixels in a predetermined spatial and spectral region near a given pixel are strongly related to each other and employing gain and offset values to compute streak removal information, a test is performed for a strong relation between the pixels in a predetermined region spatially and spectrally near a given pixel and streak removal information is computed only if such a strong relationship exists, whereby image content that does not extend the full length of the image in the column direction will not be interpreted as a streak.

    摘要: A method, system, and computer readable medium are disclosed for detecting and removing defects using images captured at multiple orientations. Defects in a physical medium in which an image is formed can hamper attempts to record representations of the original image. To lessen the effects of these physical defects on captured images, multiple images are captured using multiple different orientations of the physical medium in which the image is formed. The physical defects obscure different image information when viewed from different angles. By capturing images at multiple orientations and combining these images, almost all of the desired image information from the original image can be recovered, despite imperfections in the physical medium. The present invention finds application in image capturing devices, such as flatbed scanners, photocopiers, and the like.

    摘要: A method for fast implementation of a homomorphic filtering operation is disclosed. The method includes receiving an input image having an illumination component and an object component. The input image is subsampled to obtain a subsampled image. The subsampled image is processed to obtain a reduced-size image of a lightsource component of the subsampled image. A full-scale image of the lightsource component of the subsampled image is derived, and the full-scale lightsource image is subtracted from or divided through the input image to reduce the effect of the illumination component in the input image. The filtering operation is preferably carried out in the frequency domain owing to the need for a filter that encompasses the entire subsampled image. The low-frequency nature of the reduced-size lightsource image allows for safe interpolation of same to obtain a full-scale image of the lightsource.
