摘要: A luminaire comprises a relatively thin and flat light-emitting panel (1) having a light-emitting window (2) and, opposite said light-emitting window, a rear wall (3) with opposed edge surfaces (4, 14). At least one of the edge surfaces (4) is light transmitting and associated with a plurality of light sources (5, 5′, 5″, . . . ). Light originating from the light sources (5, 5′, 5″, . . . ) is spread in the panel (1). The invention is characterized in that a plurality of deformities (7, 7′, 7″, . . . ; 8, 8′, . . . ) is provided in the panel (1) for extracting light from the panel (1) via the light emission window (2). The deformities (7, 7′, 7″, . . . ; 8, 8′, . . . ) are clustered so as to form at least one light symbol (27; 28). The configuration of the clusters (17; 18) of deformities (7, 7′, 7″, . . . ; 8, 8′, . . . ) corresponds to the shape of the light symbol (27; 28). Preferably, the luminaire has a first and a second light-transmitting edge surface, with respectively, a first and a second plurality of light sources being associated with said surfaces. A first cluster of deformities only couples light from the first light source out of the panel, thereby forming a first light symbol, while a second cluster of deformities only couples light from the second light source out of the panel, thereby forming a second light symbol, independently of the formation of the first light symbol. The luminaire according to the invention provides independent lighting and coloring possibilities of light symbols in a single-panel luminaire.

摘要: High luminance display devices, typically utilized in applications requiring sunlight readability, require unique design methodologies as the thickness approaches a maximum of one-inch. The present invention relates to a high intensity light generation engine and associated light transmission apparatus for transmitting the light generated by the engine to a remote location. The invention is especially applicable for use in constructing a back lighted display, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD), of minimal thickness, i.e., one-inch or less. A display of minimal thickness is achieved by separating a light source and other peripherals from the display device, using a remote enclosure. Such a display is most suited for use in high ambient lighting conditions where space is at a premium, such as in the cockpit of an aircraft.

摘要: An aesthetically striking memento comprising an edge-lit translucent panel having an inscribed design, and a free-standing compact base unit with integral LED edge-lighting system. The compact base unit includes an LED light source for reflecting light upward into the translucent panel. The plaque generally comprises an acrylic panel inscribed with a reverse design on its rear face with text, logos and/or graphics and which seats within a recessed cavity in the compact base unit. A reflective material lines the floor of the cavity and surrounds a series of LEDs spaced lengthwise along the slot at the bottom of the cavity. An integral battery or A/C power receptacle provides power to the LEDs through a switch located in the compact base unit. When illuminated, the LEDs emit light upward into the translucent acrylic panel. The light is reflected forwardly from the inwardly-inscribed design and outward to a viewer, thereby accentuating the inscribed indicia carried on the panel.

摘要: A multi-function signboard includes a frame seat, a light seat, a light diffusion strip, a display board, a circuit board and a power source portion. The frame seat is a hollow light impermeable structure having a top portion that sinks downward to form a frame rib, and a frame groove, and has two ends respectively connected to an end cap. The light seat is an elongate seat that has connecting wires connected to the circuit board, and a plurality of light emitting diodes of different colors arranged in sets of three to provide light of different colors. The light diffusion strip is a transparent elongated strip with a length equal to that of the light seat, and is disposed on the light seat. The light diffusion strip and the light seat are together disposed in the frame groove. The diffusion strip is provided with semi-circular holes corresponding to the light emitting diodes to diffuse the colored light emitted by the light emitting diodes. The display board is a transparent board structure that has a bottom portion inserted into the frame groove and supported by the light diffusion strip. The display board has a surface with an ornamental marking formed by words and/or devices to reflect the colored lights emitted from the light seat and the light diffusion strip to thereby achieve an ever-changing and multifarious lighting effect. The circuit board is a conventional control circuit that is provided in the frame seat and that has connecting wires connected to the light seat and a power source portion to control one or any two or all three in each set of light emitting diodes to flash alternately. The power source portion is adapted to supply power to the circuit board from an external power source to thereby control the light seat.

摘要: A unitary sign panel including a transparent, preferably phosphorescent, plastic sheet having opposed forward and rearward planar surface and grooves in the rearward planar surface of the sheet to form outlines of desired indicia viewable from the forward planar surface of the sheet. Additional grooves are provided in the rearward planar surface forming hatch patterns within the outlines of the selected indicia which are also viewable from the forward planar surface of the sheet. The additional grooves preferably have a depth less than a depth of the grooves. The unitary sign panel is free of materials at the forward and rearward surfaces of the sheet such that light is transferable through the sheet in a direction perpendicular to the forward and rearward planar surfaces of the sheet. The sheet has a thickness sufficient for viewing through the sheet in the direction perpendicular to the forward and rearward planar surfaces of the sheet so that a viewer can see objects on the other side of the sign panel. The grooves and the additional grooves are preferably each V-shaped in cross-section. The grooves are preferably formed by engraving so that the sheet is substantially translucent at the grooves and is opaque at an apex of the V-shaped grooves. The sign panel can utilize ambient light or can be provided with an artificial light source disposed at an edge of the sheet.
