摘要: A high brightness presentation display system includes:a transparent display panel having a viewing side and a non-viewing side, furcated row electrode array, furcated column electrode array defining matrix crosspoints and an electro-responsive display producing medium at said matrix crosspoints. Row electrode drive circuitry is connected to selectively drive electrodes in the row electrode array and column electrode drive circuitry is connected to selectively drive electrodes in the column electrode array such that conjoint voltages on selected row and column electrodes operate the display. The furcated electrode spacing and interelectrode spacings are such as to enhance discrimination, and the multiple sub-pixels due to the furcations of electrodes enhance brightness. Optical sensor positioned on the non-viewing side for viewing through the transparent display panel at a predetermined position from the viewing side of the transparent display panel is activated by a remote source producing a control beam of optical energy through the transparent display panel. Optionally, electrically generated icons displayed on the panel can be used to locate the sensors. Color displays and displays having high visibility in sunlight are disclosed.

摘要: In a driving method for driving a plasma display panel, achieving improvements on luminous efficiency, brightness and contrast, as well as, low voltage and low power consumption, and also high-speed addressing and sustain therewith, wherein onto a second display electrode is applied pulse voltage in reverse polarity with sustain pulse voltage, nearly in synchronism with the sustain pulse voltage to be applied onto a first display electrode, thereby shifting initial discharge (or, pre-charge) caused between the first display electrode and a metal electrode of a partition portion after the generation thereof into display discharge, thereby forming wall charge and wall voltage on the second display electrode.

摘要: In a method and circuit of driving a flat display panel formed of a plurality of cells each having a memory function, where the cells are formed at cross points of a plurality of X-electrodes and a plurality of Y-electrode orthogonal to the X-electrodes, a period of a frame for displaying a single picture is divided into a plurality of sequential subframes. Each of the subframes comprises: an addressing period during which cells to be lit later in a display period are selected from all the cells by being written by having a wall charge therein; and the display period subsequent to the address period for lighting the selected cells by applying sustain pulses to all the cells. A number of the sustain pulses included in each display period is predetermined differently for each subframe according to a weight given to each subframe. Gradation of visual brightness of each cell is determined by the accumulated number of the sustain pulses included in the subframes that are selectively operated during a single frame according to a required brightness level for each cell. Thus, an adequate time length can be allocated to required number of subframes to achieve a quality brightness-gradation for each cell.

摘要: A circuit for driving a plasma display panel includes a scan pulse drive integrated circuit having a plurality of output terminals, and a diode array composed of a corresponding number of diodes each having a cathode connected to a corresponding one of the plurality of output terminals. Anodes of all the diodes are connected in common to one end of a first switch having the other end connected to ground. A high voltage side power supply terminal of the scan pulse driving circuit is connected through a second switch to a negative power supply. During a hold period, the first switch is turned on, but the second switch is turned off, so that a discharge current flows through the diode array to display cells of the plasma display panel, without passing through the inside of the scan pulse driving circuit.

摘要: A display apparatus capable of displaying a picture with halfbrightness (gray scale) by use of a display panel such as a plasma display panel, comprising a plurality of picture elements or luminescent dots which assume either a luminescent condition or a nonluminescent condition. A halftone picture display can be achieved according to two methods, the first being that the mean brightness of the picture element or luminescent dot be made porportional to the turn-on period. The second method is that the mean brightness of the picture element or luminescent dot for the turn-on period be made proportional to the frequency of the sustaining voltage. Several embodiments are disclosed which incorporate one or both of the foregoing principles to achieve a halftone display.

摘要: A voltage switching device operable by an electric power source comprises a gas discharge panel that includes opposing first and second electrodes and gas discharge cells therebetween. Resistors are connected between the power source and the respective first electrodes and switching means are connected between the power source and the second electrodes. In consideration of the power source terminal voltage and of the firing voltage of the gas discharge cells, the resistance values of the resistors are determined so as to prevent the gas discharge from spreading over the entire area of each gas discharge cell.

摘要: A gas discharge display matrix includes a plurality of glassclad conductors woven into a form of matrix cross-over points. The matrix is enclosed within a glass envelope filled with an ionizable gas or a mixture of gases. By applying alternating voltage to selected pairs of the glass-clad wires, the cross-over point defined by the selected pair of wires is made to ionize and discharge the gas surrounding it and emit light. Capacitor coupling and switching circuits may be used to selectively apply the alternating voltage.

摘要: The disclosure is of a display system including a matrix of gas cells which can be ignited in different combinations to represent characters. In order to balance the change in impedance for the driving circuit represented by the different numbers of gas cells ignited at different times, a second similar matrix of gas cells is provided coupled to the driving circuit and operated as the negative of the first matrix; that is, when selected cells of the first matrix are ignited, the corresponding cells in the second matrix are held off and all others are ignited.
