Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical disk device that reduces a track lead-in time associated with a seek time. A switching means 50 includes a multiplier A 11 for multiplying an output of a speed control means 5 by &agr; and a multiplier B 12 for multiplying an output of a position control means 6 by (1−&agr;), and an adder 13 for adding an output of the multiplier A 11 and an output of the multiplier B 12 to output a result of the addition as control input to an actuator driving means 8. At the time of movement of an optical pickup 3 toward a target track, the multiplier factor &agr; for the multipliers A 11 and B 12 is set at 0, thereby performing control of the actuator driving means 8 by means of the position control means 6. After the optical pickup 3 reaches the vicinity of the target track, the multiplier factor &agr; is set to be gradually increased from 0 to 1 at a predetermined ratio, whereby the speed control means 5 is gradually made operate to make the lens 2 follow the eccentricity of the optical disk 1.
Abstract:
When a lens 4a reaches a position which is a half track short of an objective track in a track jump, a servo processor 7 conducts a braking operation of an amount corresponding to the movement velocity of the lens 4a at the timing when the lens crosses the immediately preceding track. The movement velocity of the lens 4a is detected from the period of a tracking error signal. Therefore, a phenomenon in which a braking operation is not effective and the lens overshoots the objective track is prevented from occurring, and a track-on in the objective track can be surely attained.
Abstract:
When an instruction to enter information unqualified for programmed reproduction is accepted, an optical disc reproducing apparatus according to the present invention gives a notification indicating that that information cannot be entered in a program. The disc detection unit 204 detects and decides a type of each optical disc, whether or not the disc can be entered in the program, and also detects the largest track number, the system controller 501 directs the disc information memory unit 502 to store the types of optical discs, information about possibility of entry in the program, and the largest track number associated with disc accommodation locations. When entering into the program the contents accepted from the operation keys on the user interface block unit 6, the system controller 501 refers to the disc information memory unit 502, and if it finds that an accepted instruction is requesting an optical disc or a track number which cannot be entered in the program, it outputs a notification indicating that the disc cannot be entered, on the display of the user interface block unit 6.
Abstract:
An information playback apparatus is provided to obtain sound effects by using an optical disc in much the same way an analog record is manipulated. A pressing pressure applied onto a rotatable jog dial is detected by providing a pressure sensing layer to the jog dial. When no pressing pressure is applied onto the jog dial, audio information is played back from an optical disc at a normal tempo. When an end of the jog dial at rest is pressed with a pressing pressure within a predetermined range, a tempo of a playback sound played from the audio information is changed in response to the pressing pressure. When an end of the jog dial at rest is pressed with a large pressing pressure, a tempo of a playback sound played from the audio information is changed in such a manner that playback of a playback sound is stopped eventually. When the pressing pressure is released from the jog dial at rest, a tempo of a playback sound played back from the audio information is changed in such a manner that a playback sound is eventually played back at the normal tempo. Also, a tempo of a playback sound is changed in various manners in response to a pressing pressure onto the jog dial by providing manipulation keys for adjusting a quantity of change when changing a tempo of a playback sound in response to the level of a detection signal.

A spindle motor for use in a disk drive includes a spindle motor base. The spindle motor further has a spindle motor hub rotatably attached to the spindle motor base. The spindle motor further has a motor shaft in mechanical conmmunication with the spindle motor base. The spindle motor further has an inner ball bearing set surrounding the motor shaft. The inner ball bearing set has a first inner race and a first outer race. The first inner race is attached to the motor shaft. The spindle motor has an outer ball bearing set surrounding the inner ball bearing set. The outer ball bearing set has a second inner race and a second outer race. The second inner race is fixed relative to the first outer race.
Abstract:
A negative pressure air bearing slider includes a pair of front rails having a predetermined air inlet passage interposed therebetween at the front side of the slider where air enters, a negative pressure rail disposed at the rear of the front rails and forming air outlet passages connected to the air inlet passage, and forming a negative pressure space where negative pressure is generated according to the flow of air at the rear thereof, and a rear rail disposed at the rear of the negative pressure space, where a magnetic head is installed. In the slider, a stepped portion protruding toward the air outlet passages is formed at the negative pressure rail.
Abstract:
A data storage system that uses multiple nested concentric carousels on a common rotating axis. Each carousel is equipped with an opening large enough to accommodate a retrieving arm, allowing the arm access to the next interior carousel. By aligning the openings of multiple carousels, the retrieving arm can access data storage cartridges located on any of the nested carousels.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides apparatus and methods for reading optical disks. Some implementations are particularly well suited for automatically playing both sides of a dual-sided optical disk. By coordinated delivery of disks between a disk reader, a disk transfer mechanism, or a disk turner and a carrousel that is approximately toroid shaped, both sides of a dual-sided optical disk can be automatically accessed.
Abstract:
An audio reproduction apparatus randomizes or shuffles the playback order of tracks from a prerecorded media such as a compact disc within a multiple-disc changer. Shuffle sequences are generated using a linear congruential random number generator (LCRNG). The shuffle sequence does not have to be stored since a next track in the sequence can always be generated from the LCRNG using a particular set of parameters. The parameters are determined in response to the number of track (or discs) in a sequence and include elements obtained from a lookup table and elements that are randomly selected so that the same sequence is not always generated for a certain sequence length.

A method is provided for forming a body for a hard disk carriage assembly from polyphenylene sulfide 40% glass fill. An injection mold is heated to approximately 130° C.; then a volume of polyphenylene sulfide 40% glass fill is injected into the mold to form the body of the carriage assembly. The polyphenylene sulfide 40% glass fill is then cooled within the mold for approximately 45 seconds before the body is ejected from the mold cavity. The body is then heated to approximately 130° C. for at least 2 hours in a post-bake operation.
