摘要: A magnetic recording medium is formed from a non-magnetic support, and a magnetic layer formed on the support and including mainly a binder resin and a ferromagnetic metal powder including mainly Fe. The magnetic layer includes an abrasive and a lubricant. The abrasive present on the surface of the magnetic layer satisfies the relationship 0.01≦H15/H10≦0.3 where H10 denotes the number of particles per unit area having a height less than 10 nm (particles/&mgr;m2) and H5 denotes the number of particles per unit area having a height equal to or greater than 15 nm (particles/&mgr;m2). The magnetic recording medium has a surface lubricant index of 3 to 11. The height of the abrasive particles can be controlled by, for example, a blade treatment using an abrasive tape (LTBL system) or a diamond powder-studded rotating roll (DWBL system).

Provided that said magnetic layer contains a zirconia powder having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005-0.2 &mgr;m, or said magnetic layer has an average thickness in the range of 0.04-0.3 &mgr;m, said ferromagnetic powder is a metal alloy powder having a as of 130 A.m2/kg or more, and said magnetic layer contains a granulated powder having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005-0.2 &mgr;m and a specific gravity of 5 or more.

摘要: The present invention provides a magnetic recording medium having high electromagnetic transfer characteristics in a high-density recording medium. 摘要: A magnetic recording medium composed of a non-magnetic base film and a magnetic recording layer containing a binder resin, magnetic particles, and as a filler black composite hematite particles having an average diameter of 0.08 to 1.0 &mgr;m. The composite particles have cores of hematite particles which are surface coated with an organosilicon compound. A carbon black coating is formed on the organosilicon coating layer. In addition, the hematite core particles may have an oxide or hydroxide coating layer formed on the surface of the hematite core particle, between the organosilicon coating layer and the surface of the core particles. The magnetic recording medium has not only an excellent durability and a good electromagnetic performance, but also a low light transmittance, a small surface resistivity and an excellent surface smoothness.

摘要: The present invention provides a magnetic recording medium having a thinned magnetic layer, excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and an excellent durability, and a process for producing the same. A magnetic recording medium comprising a lower non-magnetic layer containing at least a carbon black and a radiation curing type binder resin on a non-magnetic support and an upper magnetic layer having a thickness of 0.30 &mgr;m or less on the lower non-magnetic layer, wherein the upper magnetic layer contains at least a ferromagnetic powder, a binder resin and an abrasive having a Mohs hardness of 6 or higher and a smaller average particle size than the thickness of the upper magnetic layer. The thickness of the upper magnetic layer is, for example, 0.05 to 0.30 &mgr;m. The average particle size of the abrasive is, for example, 0.01 to 0.2 &mgr;m.

摘要: A magnetic recording medium is provided which includes a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer formed on or above the support. The magnetic layer includes a ferromagnetic powder, a binder resin, an abrasive, and a fatty acid ester. The fatty acid ester is a fatty acid alkyl ester compound having an acid hydrolysis rate of 0.030 (1/hr) or less. The abrasive present on the surface of the magnetic layer satisfies the relational expression 0.01≦H15/H10≦0.20 where H10 denotes the number of particles per unit area having a height less than 10 nm (particles/&mgr;m2) and H15 denotes the number of particles per unit area having a height equal to or greater than 15 nm (particles/&mgr;m2).
