    摘要: A potentiometer having as an input a manually controlled, bearing supported conducting sphere which, when rotated simultaneously varies two resistances representative of an X coordinate and a Y coordinate. The potentiometer comprises a first stationary outer partial sphere on the inner surface of which is carried a continuous helical strip of conductive material. A stationary insulating ball surface is located interior of said outer sphere and carries a second strip of conductive material on its outer surface. A second sphere is supported for rotational movement intermediate the first sphere and ball surface on a plurality of ball bearings, two of which are made of a conductive material. By moving the second sphere either one of the resistances may be varied independently of each other, or both may be varied simultaneously.

    摘要: Resistive position indicator has an enlongated resistive element with an electrical terminal at each end and a tap which can be brought into contact with the resistive element. A contact point divides the resistive element into two portions and is movable along the resistive element, so that the resistance ratio between the two portions of the resistive element can be varied within wide limits. The resistive element consists of a layer of resistive material applied on a substrate of electrically insulating material. The tap comprises an elongated contact portion of electrically conducting material applied on a substrate and positioned in front of, parallel to, and slightly spaced from the resistive element, so that an air gap is formed between the resistive element and the contact portion of the tap. At least one substrate consists of a flexible foil, so that the air gap between the resistive element and the contact portion of the tap can be eliminated at any point along the resistive element by a compressive force on the flexible foil, so that the contact portion of the tap is brought into contact with the resistive layer at that point. The substrates can be a continuous strip of flexible foil which is folded and provided with an insert of insulating material having a slot. The position indicator has low friction, a low weight, and requires little space.

    摘要: A variable resistor for use in a frequency regulator comprises an actuator having an intermediate portion pivotally supported by a casing, and a pair of opposite actuating end portions exposed from the casing. A pair of opposite feed pawls depend from the actuator to engage a rotor pivotally supported by the casing between the opposite feed pawls. The rotor has on peripheral edges thereof teeth meshing with the feed pawls, and carries a slider. A resistor base plate is mounted on the casing and has an arcuate resistor layer facing the slider of the rotor. The actuator is angularly movable in response to depression of one at a time of the actuating end portions thereof for turning the rotor in one direction through meshing engagement between the feed pawls and the teeth to thereby cause the slider to slide on the arcuate resistor layer. Therefore, the resistance of the variable resistor can be varied simply by pushing the actuator angularly back and forth. The variable resistor also includes a first light-emitting element for indicating operation of the variable resistor and a second light-emitting element for indicating an angular position of the rotor.
