The present invention concerns a rising sun magnetron comprising an anode ring having a series of radially inwardly-projecting teeth-like elements of a relatively high thermal coefficient of expansion. Each element (27) has a vane (21) of material of relatively low thermal coefficient of expansion secured on either side thereof so as to define alternate long and short cavities and an associated length of material (26) also of low coefficient of thermal expansion lying between the adjacent pair of vanes (21) and acting as a fulcrum for the associated vanes when the element (27) expands due to temperature rises.

There is associated with the usual cavities of said anodes a second high frequency circuit arranged in parallel with the first one constituted by said cavities, to provide coupling between adjacent cavities and to maintain their pi mode operation despite possible geometrical differences. Moreover, by making the second circuit an absorptive one, other unwanted modes are suppressed.

The tuning member may be moved inwardly and outwardly to control the frequency of the magnetron output radiation, the member being arranged such that it can intercept the anode cavities by a variable amount to change their resonant characteristics.

A METHOD FOR FABRICATING A MOLYBEDNUM "RISING SUN" MAGNETRON ANODE IS DISCLOSED. IN THE METHOD, THE RADIAL ARRAY OF VANES IN BRAZED INTERMEDIATE AN OUTER RING AND AN INNER POST. A SPIDER STRUCTURE HAVING A RING SHAPED BODY WITH DEPENDENT AXIALLY DIRECTED LEG PORTIONS IS BRAZED THE VANES WITH THE LEG PORTIONS BEING LOCATED IN EVERY OTHER SPACE BETWEEN ADJACENT VANES TO FORM A RIGID SELF JIGGING STRUCTURE. ONCE BRAZED, THE CENTER POST, ADJACENT VANE TIPS AND RING PORTION OF THE SPIDER ARE REMOVED SO DEFINE A "RISING SUN" ANODE CONFIGURATION.
