Means are provided for rewriting the cell after reading without discharging the bit line to thereby improve cycle time. The cell includes an independently operated device (24) to access the capacitive storage node (12) to discharge the node of any charge thereon after the reading of a low or no charge bit on the capacitive storage node.

    摘要: During development of the electrostatic image, fresh toner is applied to the electrostatically charged paper by removing the depleted boundary layer of toner. The moving paper establishes a drag force on the toner forming a boundary layer which acts as a surface barrier preventing the migration of new toner particles to the paper. The development of the electrostatic image is completed in stages, each stage containing a toning mechanism to apply the toner and a squeegee mechanism to remove the toner boundary layer. In the preferred embodiment, the initial squeegee mechanism is a stationary bar, and the final squeegee mechanism is a roller squeegee partially formed by a paper drive roller.

    摘要: Electrical power is transmitted from a transmitting location to a remote receiving location by means of an electron beam injected into an evacuated magnetically shielded pipe extending between the transmitting location and the receiving location. The beam is magnetically focused within the evacuated pipe. Electrical power to be transmitted is put into the beam in the form of kinetic energy by accelerating the beam to a high kinetic energy. The kinetic energy is extracted from the beam at the receiving location and converted into potential electrical energy for application to the load. In one embodiment, the kinetic energy is extracted from the beam by collecting the beam current at a potential substantially equal to the potential of the source of the electrons, i.e. cathode potential, and causing the collected beam current to flow through the load to develop the depressed collector potential. In another embodiment, radio frequency accelerator means are utilized for r.f. current density modulating and accelerating the beam. The radio frequency current modulation on the beam is extracted at the receiving end by means of radio frequency circuits coupled to the beam. The extracted radio frequency energy is rectified for application to the load. In another embodiment, AC power at conventional AC power frequencies, as of 60 Hertz, is extracted from the beam by sequentially directing the beam into a plurality of depressed collectors coupled to respective primary windings of power transformers for deriving AC output power for application to a load.

    摘要: The heat exchanger comprises a device coupled in heat exchanging relation with a fluid stream by means of an arcuate array of radially directed, circumferentially spaced, thermally conductive fins with the mean plane of each fin being generally parallel of the axis of revolution of the arcuate array. The fins are corrugated into a wave-like geometry, with the waves increasing in amplitude with increase in radial distance from the axis of revolution, and with the wave fronts running generally laterally to the axis of revolution of the array. The fluid stream flows between adjacent fins in a serpentine path through the array in the axial direction.

    摘要: An EPR spectrometer resonant cavity having an aperture for sample introduction that is typically a rectangular or cylindrical pipe. The pipe is dimensioned so that it can be considered a waveguide which is not beyond cutoff. The aperture and pipe are precisely placed on the cavity wall so that, due to symmetry, the lowest frequency propagation mode is not excited. At the end of the pipe removed from the cavity a conveniently removable second rectangular or cylindrical pipe is provided which is coaxial with the first pipe. The second pipe is smaller than the first pipe and is dimensioned to be beyond cutoff for all propagation modes so as to enable convenient introduction of large and small samples without any disturbance of a permanent wall of the cavity and with virtually no radiation losses during operation.

    摘要: A low-voltage power supply can be used to start a gas-filled arc lamp having a movable electrode. To initiate the arc, a solenoid is energized by the low-voltage power supply to drive the movable electrode into contact with another electrode. An inductor is provided in series with the movable electrode. When the solenoid is deenergized, the movable electrode withdraws from contact with the other electrode, and a voltage which is larger than that of the power supply develops across the two electrodes. This difference of potential is attributable to the energy stored in the inductor, and is sufficient to ionize the gas in the gap between the two electrodes. In one embodiment the movable electrode is retractable into an anode electrode structure from which it is electrically insulated. The arc generated in the gap follows the movable electrode until the movable electrode is withdrawn into the anode structure, whereupon the arc jumps to the anode.

An auxiliary magnet is provided for producing an offset in the magnetic field intensity within one of the ferrimagnetic resonator bodies relative to the other to produce a difference in the resonant frequencies of the two ferrimagnetic resonator tuned circuits. The magnetic field of the main magnet and, in some cases, the field of the auxiliary magnet as well, are swept in intensity to produce a corresponding sweep in the resonant frequencies of the two ferrimagnetic resonator tuned circuits while maintaining a controlled frequency difference therebetween.

The grid is conveniently fabricated by machining a plurality of grid rings, stacking the grid rings, and broaching the array of slots in the inside walls of the stacked grid rings. The grid rings are then plated, the vane members assembled, and the assemblies are heated to melt the plating to form, when cooled, a bonded joint between the root portions of the vanes and the grid ring.
