A switching system is disclosed having an end marked network together with facilities for selecting any one out of a plurality of possible network paths for use on a connection between a preselected line side circuit and a preselected trunk side circuit. There is disclosed a selector network working according to the so-called end marking principle and using selector matrices of crossing point type wherein each crossing point is provided with a switching arrangement for performing scanning-, establishingand reidentifying functions between an initial point side and an end point side. If the holding wire of the end point side is idle, upon an establishing signal from the initial point, supplied during said scanning- and establishing function on the control wire, a first bistable logic circuit is switched and the establishing signal is transmitted to the control wire on the end point side. One path is found to the marked end point. If the first bistable logic circuit is in switched state which remains independently of the condition of the holding wire, upon a busy marking signal supplied at the end point on the holding wire, a second bistable logic circuit is switched and the busy marking signal is transmitted to the holding wire at the initial point side and speech-and re-identification gates are activated. The second bistable logic circuit remains in its switched position independently of the resetting of the first bistable logic circuit and the activated gates connect the speech wires for the two speech directions and the control wires for a reidentifying signal from the end point to the initial point.

A path-finding system for interconnection of circuits through a switching network, wherein the network includes a plurality of matrix stages interconnected to provide plural paths between circuits connected to opposite ends of the network and wherein each stage is divided into separate matrix groups. The matrix groups comprise cross-point relays having control and hold coils. The mark coils are interconnected between adjacent stages by mark leads for controlling the actuation of the cross-point relays and the hold coils are interconnected by hold leads for maintaining the relays actuated. Guard relays are included in the mark leads between two of the matrix stages. The circuits at opposite ends of the network to be connected are marked. The busy-free conditions of the individual hold leads connected to a selected one of the matrix groups between two of the network stages are scanned to locate a free path. A circuit responsive to the detection of a free hold lead completes the connection through the network and interconnects the marked circuits.

An automatic switching system is equipped to enable manual control of visual indicators at individual telephone extensions of a private branch telephone exchange. The system makes it possible for a switchboard operator to close switches to operate visual indicators at selected individual subscriber sets an thus to indicate that a message is waiting. The system makes it possible for the operator to set a do-not-disturb circuit in response to a request from a subscriber and to signal the subscriber that the request has been honored. The system also makes it possible for connections to be completed to and from the subscriber stations when the message waiting indicator is on. The system returns a busy signal when the do-not-disturb indicator is on. The system operates to restore indicator signals when such connections are terminated. The subscriber station is allowed to originate calls in the do-not-disturb condition but incoming calls are not allowed to ring the station in this condition. The operator has the option to override the do-not-disturb condition in an emergency without changing the state of said circuit.
