The high air loss bladder includes a peripheral tube which seals against a supporting surface to contain the air which escapes from longitudinal sacks within the tube. The foot sections of the low air loss and static bladders are selectively deflatable.

    摘要: A fluid levitated generally convex support member particularly useful in supporting a pallet, plate or belt such that the pallet, plate or belt load may be moved in an air powered track system, the system including at least one concave track with means for supporting and guiding the convex member and the pallet, plate or belt thereabove on a thin film of pressurized air jetting from nozzles in the track. The support member includes a generally tubular, flexible and partly deformable outer member and means for internally stressing the outer member so that under load there will be controlled deformation thereof. The deformed member will be closely complementary to the track surface to maximize load carrying capacity while minimizing fluid support power requirements and the detrimental effect of track deformities. Of particular significance is the ability of the support assembly covering to vibrate at high frequency at the track surface in response to the track jets and the wedge flow of the fluid support film to provide a pumping action which propagates and augments the pressure of the support film. Also, the small air film provides a controlled air gap which permits the use of electromagnetic propulsion member installed as part of the track for reaction with suitable secondary devices included in the support means. Under load removal there will be controlled recovery of the shape of the outer member. The support member exhibits excellent wear, cleanliness, cushioning, manufacturing, and select frequency response and damping characteristics.

    摘要: An apparatus in which successive flexible sheets are advanced from a stack. The stack of sheets are held in a substantially vertical orientation. Successive outermost sheets from one side of the stack are fed, in seriatim in a direction substantially opposed to the direction of the gravitational force exerted thereon. The stack of sheets is moved toward a sheet feeder so as to position successive outermost sheets of one side thereof in a feeding relationship therewith. In addition, the stack holder moves from an operative position, in which the sheets are in a sheet feeding relationship, to an inoperative position for loading a new stack therein.

    摘要: Improvements to the various components of hydrostatic bearing levitation systems, systems wherein fluid pressure between a load and the rails of a track system supports and guides the load, are described. The rail has a plurality of lengthwise extending ports and nozzles communicating from the innermost ports through the curved upper wall to the interface area between the rail and the load. The nozzles are arranged in longitudinally aligned groups and in a pair of parallel rows with the groups of one row being longitudinally staggered with respect to the groups of the other row. The nozzles can be inexpensively produced by boring an oversize hole through the upper wall and fixing a cannula, such as a hypodermic needle, in the bore. The cannula's internal diameter is the desired nozzle diameter. The load support member has a compliant outer cover, a central core, and a filler material wound tightly on the core. The filler material is a cellulosic sheet material having a high percentage of groundwood and little or no crepe. The improved components cooperate together to provide a low-cost load/mover whether for palletized loads in a warehouse or even for inter- or intra-urban transportation systems.

    摘要: An apparatus for carrying and transporting loads over a surface comprises: a supporting platform; a flexible damping ring fixed to the supporting platform along a circular closed-loop line of contact and defining a chamber adapted for inflation upon introduction of a pressurized medium; an uplift chamber defined between the supporting platform, the surface and an interior wall portion of the damping ring, the interior wall portion of the damping ring forming a lateral partition between the chambers during operation and the damping ring having at least one aperture enabling fluid communication between the chambers; and, the interior wall portion of the damping ring being stretchable and the remaining wall portions of the damping ring being substantially unstretchable, whereby introduction of the pressurized medium will effect inflation of the damping ring and pressurization of the uplift chamber, the pressurized medium escaping from the uplift chamber as a fluid film of substantially uniform thickness and pressure between the damping ring and the surface, notwithstanding movement of the apparatus over uneven and irregular surfaces. The apparatus may also comprise an annular disc fixed interiorly of the damping ring chamber at a uniform distance from the supporting platform, the disc having an outer circumference extending outwardly at least as far as does the closed-loop line of contact. The apparatus may further comprise a connecting chamber bounded at least partly by the supporting platform and forming a fluid interconnection between the damping ring chamber and the uplift chamber.

    摘要: A planar air pallet supports a load for frictionless transport relative to an underlying fixed support surface. A single sheet of flexible plastic film may underlie a stack of cartons forming the load with the edges sheet heat shrunk about the stack of cartons. Small diameter perforations are provided at least within that portion of the sheet underlying the lowermost tier of cartons to form a plenum chamber, preferably through air dispersion members between the flexible sheet and the carton load. The perforations unrestrictedly open directly to said plenum chamber. Pillowing of the sheet portion of the plenum chamber is controlled to permit jacking of the load sufficiently for a combination of surface irregularity for both the load support surface and the backing surface. The air pallet may also comprise a flexible film bag, which carries internally a rigid sheet which may be the load to control pillowing and provide air dispersion.
