摘要: A gas separation method including performing a gas separation operation that separates a source gas into a primary-side gas and a secondary-side gas with a membrane of a membrane module. The source gas contains a combustible component. The gas separation operation includes pressurizing the source gas and supplying the source gas to a primary side of the membrane module and depressurizing a secondary side of the membrane module to a pressure lower than an atmospheric pressure. The primary-side gas has a higher concentration of the combustible component than the secondary-side gas, and the gas separation method further includes detecting a composition of the secondary-side gas and stopping the gas separation operation in an instance in which the composition enters a specified range.

摘要: The invention is an improved method of making an improved carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membrane in which a precursor polymer (e.g., polyimide) is pyrolyzed at a pyrolysis temperature to form a CMS membrane that is cooled to ambient temperature (about 40° C. or 30° C. to about 20° C.). The CMS membrane is then reheated to a reheating temperature of at least 250° C. to 400° C. to form the improved CMS membrane. The CMS have a novel microstructure as determined by Raman spectroscopy. The improved CMS membranes have shown an improved combination of selectivity and permeance as well as stability for separating light hydrocarbon gas molecules such as C1 to C6 hydrocarbon gases (e.g., methane, ethane, propane, ethylene, propylene, butane, butylene).

摘要: One variation of a method includes: ingesting an air sample captured during an air capture period at a target location for collection of a first mixture including carbon dioxide and a first concentration of impurities; conveying the first mixture through a liquefaction unit to generate a second mixture including carbon dioxide and a second concentration of impurities less than the first concentration of impurities; in a methanation reactor, mixing the second mixture with hydrogen to generate a first hydrocarbon mixture comprising a third concentration of impurities comprising nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen; conveying the first hydrocarbon mixture through a separation unit configured to remove impurities from the first hydrocarbon mixture to generate a second hydrocarbon a fourth concentration of impurities less than the third concentration of impurities; and depositing the second hydrocarbon mixture in a diamond reactor containing a set of diamond seeds to generate a first set of diamonds.
