摘要: An improved method for hydrodewaxing a petroleum or shale oil fraction, e.g. petroleum distillate, in a reactor is provided which involves contacting said fraction with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst comprising a crystalline zeolite having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least 12 under hydrodewaxing conditions wherein the average reactor temperature at start-up of from about 200.degree. C. to 310.degree. C. is increased uniformly to at least 360.degree. C. within about seven days from start-up.

摘要: In starting up an upflow, ebullated bed hydroprocessing reactor, a light oil is used, to establish an ebullating bed. As heavy residual feedstock is incrementally substituted, the ebullating pump speed and gas flow rate need to be monitored and adjusted for smooth operation. By knowing and controlling the viscosity and density of the feedstock, flow variations inside the reactor can be minimized, resulting in a constant pump speed and gas flow rate.

摘要: The invention relates to a utility fluid, such as a fluid containing aromatic and non-aromatic ringed molecules, useful as a diluent when hydroprocessing pyrolysis tar, such as steam cracker tar. The specified utility fluid comprises ≧10.0 wt % aromatic and non-aromatic ring compounds and each of the following: (a) ≧1.0 wt % of 1.0 ring class compounds; (b) ≧5.0 wt % of 1.5 ring class compounds; (c) ≧5.0 wt % of 2.0 ring class compounds; and (d) ≦0.1 wt % of 5.0 ring class compounds. The invention also relates to methods for producing such a utility fluid and to processes for hydroprocessing pyrolysis tar.

摘要: Methods and apparatuses are provided for hydrotreating hydrocarbons. A method includes heating a start-up oil in a stripper liquid fraction heat exchanger during a start-up period, and heating a reactor with the start-up oil. The start-up oil is discharged from the reactor when the start-up period ends, and a standard operating period begins after the start-up period. A reactor effluent is produced by introducing a hydrocarbon stream into the reactor during the standard operating period, where hydrogen sulfide is produced from an organic sulfur compound in the hydrocarbon stream. Steam is produced in the stripper liquid fraction heat exchanger during the standard operating period.

摘要: The safety, convenience and environmental acceptability of starting a two-stage hydrocracking process unit is increased by employing aqueous ammonia as a selective catalyst poison. The aqueous ammonia is injected into the recycle gas system of the hydrocracking process. The invention eliminates the possibility of forming a large airborne cloud of ammonia gas upon an accidental release of the ammonia stream as is possible with the injection of anhydrous ammonia. The invention also stabilizes the operation of the unit through the use of a maintenance injection rate sufficient to maintain an inlet ammonia content above about 40 ppm.

摘要: The instant invention comprises an improved hydrorefining process which comprises contacting hydrocarbonaceous oil feed and hydrogen with a catalyst comprising a hydrogenation component selected from the group consisting of Group VIB metal component, Group VIII non-noble metal component and mixtures thereof, optionally comprising a phosphorous-containing component or compound, and an alumina-containing support, at hydrorefining conditions, wherein the improvement comprises heating the catalyst at initial start-up from a temperature below about 450.degree. F. to hydrorefining temperature at an average rate of less than 30.degree. F. per hour in the presence of hydrogen and said oil feed.

摘要: A startup method for moving-bed reactors used in hydrocarbon conversion processes wherein the reactor is brought on-stream at full capacity while it contains less than a full loading of catalyst, and quantities of catalyst are intermittently added to the reactor while the hydrocarbons are being processed. Catalyst removal is then begun at a rate lower than the rate of catalyst addition and adjusted when the catalyst retention volume of the reactor becomes filled. The method is specifically adaptable to the hydrogenation of olefinic materials, the desulfurization of petroleum fractions and the production of liquid products from coal.

摘要: In the pressure testing of catalyst-loaded reactors with nitrogen gas at elevated temperatures, it is found that certain types of zeolite catalysts are substantially degraded in activity. The catalysts concerned comprises a Group VIII noble metal in an oxidized state, dispersed on a crystalline hydrogen zeolite, e.g., Y zeolite. It has now been discovered however that if such catalysts are first prereduced with a dilute, non-combustible mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen, damage on subsequent pressure testing with nitrogen is prevented or drastically reduced. Following pressure testing, the catalyst is activated by dehydration in a stream of hydrogen at elevated temperatures and pressures.
