摘要: Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition which comprises: (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. in a range of about 2 to about 50 mm2/s, (b) an overbased metal salt of an alkyl-substituted phenate detergent, wherein the alkyl group is derived from an isomerized normal alpha olefin having from about 10 to about 40 carbon atoms per molecule and having an isomerization level (I) of the normal alpha olefin of from about 0.1 to about 0.4 in an amount to provide at least 1000 ppm of calcium, (c) one or more magnesium-containing detergents having about 100 to about 1000 ppm of magnesium, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, and (d) one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compounds derived from a primary alcohol.

摘要: A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil composition includes greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil, one or more overbased calcium sulfonate detergent(s) and one or more overbased calcium phenate detergent(s). The calcium, boron, nitrogen, and amount of soap are maintained within certain ratios, and the total base number contribution from all detergents to the lubricating oil composition is less than 4.2 mg KOH/g of the lubricating oil composition, as measured by the method of ASTM D-2896. The lubricating oil composition and method may be effective to reduce low-speed pre-ignition events in a boosted internal combustion engine lubricated with the lubricating oil composition relative to capable lubricating oil compositions.

摘要: A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil composition includes greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil, an overbased detergent having a TBN greater than 225 mg KOH/g and a low-based/neutral detergent having a TBN up to 175 mg KOH/g. A total amount of calcium from the overbased and low-based/neutral detergent is greater than 1100 ppm to less than 2400 ppm by weight based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition. The lubricating oil composition and method may be effective to reduce low-speed pre-ignition events in a boosted internal combustion engine lubricated with the lubricating oil composition relative to commercially available lubricating oil compositions.

摘要: An overbased calcium sulfonate grease composition and method of manufacture comprising added alkali metal hydroxide alone or in combination with (a) calcium hydroxyapatite and/or added calcium carbonate used as calcium containing bases for reacting with complexing acids) and/or (b) at least one delay period between the addition of water as a converting agent and addition of a portion of a non-aqueous converting agent. A delay period may involve the period of time it takes to adjust the temperature of the mixture, a period of time during which the mixture is held at a temperature or within a range of temperatures, and multiples and any combination thereof. These calcium sulfonate greases have improved thickener yield and high dropping points compared to greases made without added alkali metal hydroxide and delay between the additions of water and a non-aqueous converting agent, particularly when a poor quality overbased calcium sulfonate is used.

摘要: An overbased calcium magnesium sulfonate grease composition and method of making such grease without using any conventional non-aqueous converting agents, such as hexylene glycol, as a pre-conversion ingredient. The addition of magnesium sulfonate as an ingredient prior to conversion appears to act as a new, non-conventional converting agent, resulting in greases with improved thickener yield and excellent dropping point.
