摘要: In certain embodiments, Lube Oil Controlled Ignition (LOCI) Engine Combustion overcomes the drawbacks of known combustion technologies. First, lubricating oil is already part of any combustion engine; hence, there is no need to carry a secondary fuel and to have to depend on an additional fuel system as in the case of dual-fuel technologies. Second, the ignition and the start of combustion rely on the controlled autoignition of the lubricating oil preventing the occurrence of abnormal combustion as experienced with the Spark Ignition technology. Third, LOCI combustion is characterized by the traveling of a premixed flame; hence, it has a controllable duration resulting in a wide engine load-speed window unlike the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition technology where the engine load-speed window is narrow. Adaptive Intake Valve Closure may be used to control in-cylinder compression temperature to be high enough to realize the consistent auto ignition of the lubricating oil mist.

摘要: A method is provided for operating an internal combustion piston engine, including introducing air into a cylinder of the engine, compressing the air in a first compression stroke of the cylinder, providing fuel into the cylinder for a first combustion, with a portion of the oxygen in the compressed air as oxidant, in a first power stroke succeeding the first compression stroke, to produce residues including oxygen, compressing the residues in a second compression stroke succeeding the first power stroke, and providing, after the first combustion, fuel into the cylinder for a second combustion, with at least a portion of the oxygen of the residues as oxidant, in a second power stroke succeeding the second compression stroke, wherein the first compression stroke is repealed immediately after the second power stroke, and the introduction of air into the cylinder is done at the end of the second power stroke and/or at the beginning of the first compression stroke.

摘要: A fuel for an internal combustion engine includes a fatty alkyl ether having a formula corresponding to formula (II): wherein x is 1-8, and y is 0 to 3; and the alkyl is an alkyl group having a number of carbon atoms that is less than the number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chain on the opposite side of the oxygen atom. The fatty alky ether can be used as a neat fuel or blend with biodiesel, diesel, ethanol or other fuels. The fatty alkyl ethers are improved in cetane number and cold flow properties over a biodiesel with fatty acid methyl acid methyl ester compounds. This is particularly valuable for compression ignition engines. A method of combustion in several types of engines is also disclosed.

摘要: A compression ignition engine with a supercharger is provided, which includes one or more valves configured to switch a state between a first state where intake air is boosted by the supercharger and a second state where it is not boosted, a fluid temperature adjuster configured to adjust a temperature of engine coolant to be supplied to a radiator from an engine body, and a controller. When the engine operates in a high-load range, the controller controls the combustion mode to be in a compression ignition combustion mode, and causes the valve(s) to be in the first state, and in a low-load range, the controller causes the valve(s) to be in the second state. In the high-load range, the controller outputs a control signal to the fluid temperature adjuster so that a target temperature of the engine coolant is lowered than that in the low-load range.

In another aspect, an engine ignition apparatus for a natural gas engine may include, among other features, a controllable valve connected to a hydraulic fluid chamber, and configured to open and release a hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic fluid chamber, and to close. In still another aspect, a method for controlling an engine ignition apparatus for an engine includes, among other features, controlling a volume of a hydraulic fluid chamber of an ignition apparatus.

The combustion chamber is divided by the annular impinging block into an upper chamber and a lower chamber. The annular impinging block includes a lower guide surface that is adjacent to the lower chamber and that extends from a trough line connected to the piston to a crest line. The ratios among the inner diameter of the top of the piston, the outer diameter of the top of the piston, the diameter of the trough line, and the diameter of the crest line define the shape of the combustion chamber which leads to increased rate of combustion, reduced soot emission, and increased fuel efficiency.
