摘要: An apparatus and method for fastening dissimilar metals like steel and aluminum utilizes a steel rivet and a spot welding machine. The rivet and metals are stacked and the heat from the welder's electric current softens the lower melting point aluminum allowing the rivet to penetrate the aluminum and weld to the steel layer. The fastener may be used to join stacks with several layers of different materials and may be used to apply a threaded socket or stud made from steel or titanium to an aluminum or magnesium alloy structure. Layers of non-conductive materials like plastic and ceramics may also be affixed to a conductive layer using the fastener made from a compatible material that extends through a pilot hole.

摘要: An apparatus and method for fastening dissimilar materials like steel, plastic and aluminum. A resistance welding fastener having multiple layers may be used with or without a sealant. The fastener may be used to form an aluminum covered steel laminate via a hemming pattern of attachment. The fastener may have a solid shaft or have an extended reach and have features for interacting with the welding electrode. A variety of electrode tips may be employed to cooperate with the fastener.

摘要: Provided is an element that allows being rigidly joined to a metal plate without adding a shape difficult to machine (a shape required for joining) in advance. An element 1 includes a flange-shaped part 2 and a columnar part 3 having a smaller diameter than the flange-shaped part 2. In a state where the columnar part 3 is inserted into an insertion hole 12 drilled in the metal plate 11, by applying pressure in an axial direction to deform and flow the metal plate 11 in a compression direction at the flange-shaped part 2 and to deform a part at a distal end edge of the columnar part 3 to expand in diameter to receive a deformed and flowed metal, so as to allow the element 1 to be joined to the metal plate 11 made of metal.

摘要: A self-clinching fastener for attachment to a plastically deformable metal substrate includes a body portion with a central axis, the body portion has an annular-shaped surface extending in a direction perpendicular to the central axis The annular-shaped surface includes a first annular face, a second annular face, and a third annular face. The height h of the ring-shaped punching part 12 is equal to or lower than the height H of the bearing surface 17 in the opposite manner to the conventional technique.

摘要: An apparatus providing mating alignment between internal threading of a rivet nut and the external threading of the mandrel of an unclaimed installation tool before anchoring the rivet nut in a hole in a substrate, or the external threading of an unclaimed threaded fastener after anchoring in the substrate hole. The improvements include a bushing sleeve seated in a counterbore in the rivet nut, for guiding the external threading of the mandrel or fastener to the internal threading of the rivet nut. The sleeve also enables play during upset of the rivet nut, and provides visual confirmation whether the rivet nut has been properly anchored in the hole of substrate.

After the plastic deformation of the sleeve portion, the support ribs contact one another in order to allow a direct force flow between the head portion and the sleeve portion.

The second hardness is greater than the first hardness. The fastener is fastened to the multi-material boss via the second opening of the augmenting cylinder having the higher liquidus temperature and greater hardness.
