    摘要： Devices to measure bearing wear are known for bearings such as rod-ends, wherein the rod-end must either be removed completely from its installed position or relocated relative to the device each time wear in a different axis is to be measured. Such devices also tend to be relatively large and cumbersome. The present invention provides a device 10 which is a fully portable light-weight apparatus that precisely measures bearings in two axes. When employed for the purpose of assessing bearing wear, the invention is capable of obtaining the measurement in confined spaces, without the need to remove the bearing from its fully installed position or reorient the bearing housing to facilitate both measurements. By using the disclosed apparatus, a user may ascertain the serviceability of a bearing by detecting the level of wear in the bearing allowing timely replacement and/or repair.

    摘要： A self-aligning spherical roller bearing assembly including inner and outer rings, each having a concave curvature of their raceways, and a plurality of barrel shaped rollers therebetween is disclosed. The convexly curved surface of the rollers, which in the central portion of the roller''s length has a convex radius of curvature substantially equal to the concave radius of curvature of the mating inner ring raceway, has a modified curvature at each end to increase the normal osculation clearance between the roller and its raceways so as to reduce roller edge loading and the resulting stress concentration at the ends of the roller. The osculation clearance provided is related to the calculated elastic deformation of the roller and raceway in contact under the maximum design load. A method for making the roller is also disclosed.

    摘要： A ball bearing capable of taking both radial and axial loads comprises an integral ball on the end of a shaft engaging a full circular complement of balls running in a cylindrical outer race ring and confined axially by end plates at opposite ends of the outer race ring. The outer race ring and end plates are held in an outer case formed of metal having a lower modulus of elasticity than the outer race ring and end plates. A second bearing system comprises a shaft fixed axially on at least one end of a hollow cylinder in which two balls are confined. A finger extends through an opening in the side wall of the cylinder and between the two balls to take axial thrust on the shaft in either direction. The shaft is rotatably supported by radial bearings.
