Abstract: A method for applying a surface pattern on a surface of a spectacle lens substrate includes the following steps: providing a spectacle lens substrate having a polymeric lens material, providing a composition containing a swelling agent, applying a pattern of the composition on the surface of the spectacle lens substrate, and allowing for diffusion of the swelling agent from the composition into the lens material. Moreover, a spectacle lens substrate has a polymeric lens material and exhibits a surface pattern on a surface of the spectacle lens substrate. The polymeric lens material includes a swelling agent at positions forming the surface pattern, and a spectacle lens substrate contains a polymeric lens material, wherein the spectacle lens substrate exhibits a pattern of a composition containing a swelling agent applied on a surface of the spectacle lens substrate.

Abstract: A spectacle lens can inhibit ametropia of the eyes and ensure full visibility. The spectacle lens comprises: first refraction areas and second refraction areas. Each first refraction area has a first refraction force that may be based on a prescription for correcting the ametropia of the eyes. Each second refraction area has a refraction force different from the first refraction force and may function to focus images on the positions except the retina of the eyes, to inhibit the development of the ametropia. Near the central part of the lens, the second refraction areas form a plurality of independent island-shaped areas, and the first refraction areas form the areas beyond the areas of the second refraction areas.

Abstract: A phase-adjusting element configured to provide substantially liquid-invariant extended depth of field for an associated optical lens. One example of a lens incorporating the phase-adjusting element includes the lens having surface with a modulated relief defining a plurality of regions including a first region and a second region, the first region having a depth relative to the second region, and a plurality of nanostructures formed in the first region. The depth of the first region and a spacing between adjacent nanostructures of the plurality of nanostructures is selected to provide a selected average index of refraction of the first region, and the spacing between adjacent nanostructures of the plurality of nanostructures is sufficiently small that the first region does not substantially diffract visible light.

Abstract: A contact lens and a method for treating an eye with myopia is described. The contact lens includes an inner optic zone and an outer optic zone. The outer optic zone includes at least a portion with a first power, selected to correct distance vision. The inner optic zone has a relatively more positive power (and add power). In some embodiments the add power is substantially constant across the inner optic zone. In other embodiments the add power is variable across the inner optic zone. While in some embodiments the inner optic zone has a power designed to substantially eliminate lag of accommodation in the eye with myopia, in other embodiments, the add power may be higher.
