Abstract: A method system for use of Doppler shift as a basis to detect user focus, such as to detect that a user was attracted to audio media and/or to an associated object. A portable processing device carried by the user receives audio media emitted from an audio source at a fixed location, the audio media having periodic watermarking encoded at a baseline frequency. The portable processing device detects a change in frequency of the periodic watermarking over time, such as the frequency progressing from at least being higher than the baseline frequency to being the baseline frequency for at least a predefined threshold period of time. Based on the detected change in frequency of the periodic watermarking over time, the portable device then provides a report indicating that the user was attracted to the audio media and/or to an object (e.g., a commercial object) collocated with the audio source.

Abstract: To extract an identifier value from a watermark in media content, a system initially determines the identifier by determining symbol values based on an evaluation of tone strength of each of multiple symbol time segments of the watermark. Further, the system assigns a quality level to the watermark, based on a count of errors in the determined symbol values in view of one or more watermark-structure rules. Still further, if the quality level is threshold low, then the system engages in an error correction process that takes into account, for each symbol time segment whose symbol value may be erroneous, whether that symbol time segment has a threshold strong tone combination that matches the tone combination of a corresponding symbol time segment in a verified watermark. And if the error correction process is successful, the system replaces the determined identifier value with the identifier value of the verified watermark.

Abstract: An audio file associated with a user voice query may be received at a user device. The audio file may be compared to a plurality of references, such as cache entries, corresponding to a plurality of other voice queries. Based on a determination that the voice query corresponds to one of the references, an operation associated with the voice query may be executed. An indication may be received that the operation was not an intended operation associated with the voice query. Based on receiving this indication, the incorrectly identified operation, associated reference, e.g., voice query, may be disabled for the user or the device. However, the cache entry may remain enabled for one or more of a plurality of other devices.

Abstract: An adaptive echo cancellation system introduces an acoustic reference signal to audio content being transmitted to the speaker for playback. The acoustic reference signal is an out-of-band signal, such as an ultrasonic signal, which is typically not audible to humans. The microphone of the mobile device receives the audio content played back by the speaker as well as audio content introduced by the user (e.g., the speech of the user). The adaptive echo cancellation system detects the acoustic reference signal and determines a time delay between when the acoustic reference signal was introduced to the audio content and when the audio content including the acoustic reference signal was received by the mobile device. Echo is cancelled from the received audio content based on this determined time delay.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed for signal identification using a low power watermark. Example apparatus for media identification based on watermarks includes a first processor to determine, in response to receiving a signal, if a first watermark is present in the signal using a first processing technique. The example first processor is further to provoke, in response to the first watermark being present in the signal, a second processing technique on a signal processor. The signal processor is to extract a second watermark in the signal using the second processing technique.
