    摘要: A method of operating a magnetic tape within a tape drive. The tape drive comprises a tape head, which shows a tape-bearing surface meant to face a front side of a magnetic tape, in operation. The tape-bearing surface comprises a transducer area. This area includes at least one transducer, which is a read or write element configured to read or write to the magnetic tape, respectively. The method may include driving the tape (along a longitudinal direction of circulation thereof above the tape-bearing surface) and concomitantly ejecting a gas flow toward the transducer area. The gas flow ejected impinges on the back side of the driven tape (e.g., opposite to the front side of the tape), so as to locally urge the front side of the tape against the transducer area and thereby read or write to the tape via said at least one transducer.

    摘要: A slider supporting apparatus of includes a base portion; a flexure supported by the base portion; a contact portion being provided on a leading portion of the flexure for urging a trailing edge of the slider to contact with pads on the trailing edge; a support plate attached beneath a tongue; and a clamp comprising a mounting portion fixed on the support plate, two spring arms downward extended from the mounting portion to pass through a hole of the flexure slantwise, and a connection bar connected with two ends of the spring arms for urging a leading edge of the slider to provide a downward component force to the slider. The apparatus provides a larger spring stroke with long lifetime to reduce cost, and avoid pitch and roll static torque to generate so as to prevent the slider popping out the suspension during slider testing process.

    摘要: A magnetic disk device includes a magnetic disk and a magnetic head having a magnetic head slider flying by an action of air during rotation of the magnetic disk, wherein an inflow of air from a direction of a leading side face of the magnetic head slider forming an air bearing film effect at an air bearing surface face of the magnetic head slider which faces the magnetic disk, and the air flows out from a trailing side face of the magnetic head slider. The magnetic head slider has a wettability, in at least a part of an outer region defined on the trailing side face and adjoining other faces including the air bearing surface face of the magnetic head slider, which is lower than a wettability of at least one other region present at the trailing side face.

The slider resistant to lubricant accumulation includes a positive-air-pressure portion of the slider configured to levitate the slider above a magnetic-recording disk and a negative-air-pressure portion of the slider configured to bring the slider into proximity with the magnetic-recording disk at a fly height sufficient for writing data to and reading data from the magnetic-recording disk. The slider resistant to lubricant accumulation also includes a lubricant-accumulation barrier disposed in proximity to a trailing edge of the slider. The lubricant-accumulation barrier is configured to reduce lubricant accumulation on the slider.

    摘要: In a magnetic disk device, cost reduction is designed by improving productivity, and increase in recording density and increase in capacity of the device or size reduction are designed with reliability being ensured. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device has a magnetic disk arranged rotatably, a magnetic head slider arranged in a manner of facing a surface of the magnetic disk, and a driving device for moving the magnetic head slider in a radial direction of the surface of the magnetic disk. The magnetic head slider has a silicon slider-substrate-portion and a thin-film head portion which is formed on the slider substrate portion using a thin-film process and forms an air-bearing surface along with the slider substrate portion. The thin-film head portion has recording/reproduction elements facing the surface of the magnetic disk, and a ceramic insulation film has alumina and silicon-based ceramics in order to have a coefficient of linear expansion approximately equal to that of the silicon slider-substrate-portion.

    摘要: A head gimbal assembly (HGA) has an improved interconnection between a head slider and a suspension of the HGA. The interconnection is achieved by using a reverse surface of an air bearing surface of the head slider as bonding surface to provide more space for arranging more slider electrical bonding pads thereon. The head slider is mechanically and electrically connected to the suspension at the bonding surface to have good performance on shocking conditions. The suspension further has an attitude control layer located between the head slider and the suspension. The attitude control layer serves as a datum plate for the head slider lying thereon and supporting the head slider so as to ensure the head slider a good attitude and reduce variation of slider flying height. The present invention also discloses a magnetic disk drive with the improved HGA and a fabricating method for the HGA.
