    摘要: Disclosed is a gas-discharge display panel having plural discharge cells arranged in a matrix. Each of the discharge cells is provided with a hot cathode consisting of conductive material having a shape which provides a heat capacity and heat conductivity as small as possible. Each cathode is coated by an electron emissive material having a small work function. As a result, the hot cathode can be heated to a required working temperature solely by the bombardment of particles contained in a discharge current itself, without requiring any externally supplied heating power to obtain a highly efficient use of applied driving power.

    摘要: The reservoir system includes a heater coil having electrical leads adapted to be coupled to a voltage source. The heater coil is adapted to generate heat in correspondence with a heater voltage provided by the voltage source. A reservoir material layer is adapted to regulate pressure of a gas disposed within the gaseous-discharge device in accordance with temperature of the reservoir material. Heat is transferred from the heater coil to the reservoir material through a series of thermally conductive layers in which each of the layers have different thermal conductivity and coefficients of expansion. As a result, the thermal path resistance between the heater coil and the reservoir material layer increases as temperature of the heater coil increases so that the reservoir material increases in temperature at a slower rate than the heater coil.

    摘要: Apparatus for forming an electron beam sheet includes a cathode member having a slot in a front surface thereof, a grid electrode and the anode of a thyratron. When it is desired to trigger the thyratron into conduction, a suitably large potential difference is applied between the cathode member and the grid, resulting in an electron beam sheet being produced extensive of a slot formed in the front surface of the cathode member. This produces ionisation and a main discharge current is established between the main anode and cathode of the thyratron.

    摘要: A shutter (36) is provided for controlling a beam, or current, of charged particles in a device such as a thyratron (10). The substrate (38) defines an aperture (60) with a gap (32) which is placeable within the current. Coils (48) are formed on the substrate (38) adjacent the aperture (60) to produce a magnetic field for trapping the charged particles in or about aperture (60). The proximity of the coils (48) to the aperture (60) enables an effective magnetic field to be generated by coils (48) having a low inductance suitable for high frequency control. The substantially monolithic structure including the substrate (38) and coils (48) enables the entire shutter assembly (36) to be effectively located with respect to the particle beam.

    摘要: A thyratron includes an envelope containing a gas filling, an anode, an intermediate grid, control grids and a cylindrical structure which acts as a cathode heat shield in a conventional thyratron. In operation the intermediate grid is maintained at cathode potential and, when triggering pulses are applied to the control grids, the gas filling ionizes and the thyratron becomes conducting. The main part of the current comes from the intermediate grid which acts as a "hollow" cathode, and enables the thermionic cathode conventionally used to be dispensed with if desired.
