    摘要: The present invention is an anisotropically loaded helix assembly for use in a traveling-wave tube, and the corresponding method for making the same. The present invention includes a helix circuit concentrically supported within a conductive cylindrical housing by a plurality of dielectric support members. The present invention effects an improved efficiency and bandwidth in the performance of TWT by the material used to form the dielectric support members, the shape of the dielectric support members and the manner by which the anisotropic load is affixed to the dielectric support members.

    摘要: An accelerating cavity having one or more iris structures mounted therein for strongly damping unwanted frequencies that are generated in the cavity by bunches of particles in a particle beam that is accelerated through the cavity during its operation. Each of the iris structures is characterized by containing a plurality of radial slots therein that extend from the central aperture through the iris member to the perimeter thereof. The outer end of each of the radial slots includes an enlarged portion that is effective to prevent undesired frequencies from being reflected back into the center aperture of the iris member. Waveguide means connect the outer ends of the radial slots to frequency damping means or to a dump or dumps.

    摘要: A termination device for absorbing RF energy waves in the termination chamber of a traveling wave tube. The termination device is formed by modifying two wedge shaped termination devices of the prior art. Specifically, two well known single wedge termination devices are sliced in half to produce two wedges each one half the thickness of the prior art single wedge device. The two halves are positioned with their newly formed surface, formed by the slicing, in opposed facing contact. The new double wedge thus has the same thickness as the prior single wedge and is readily accommodated within the termination chamber. The double wedge termination device greatly reduces small signal gain variations across the operating frequency band of the traveling wave tube.

    摘要: Two coupled cavity type, slow-wave circuits are separated, with a drift space section between them. An electron beam and an electromagnetic wave, which do not interact with each other, over a certain length, are in the drift space. A waveguide type non-reflective termination structure has a waveguide axis directed in the same direction as the electron beam and is coupled to the cavity, slow-wave circuits with respect to a high frequency wave disposed in the drift space section. With such a construction, a traveling wave tube is formed with a PPM focusing and with a non-reflective termination structure includes a waveguide member having a through-hole for passing an electron beam and two waveguides formed on the opposite sides of the through-hole. A lossy ceramic member is disposed within one of the two waveguides for a forwardly traveling wave and another lossy ceramic member is disposed in the other waveguide for a backwardly traveling wave. Each of the two waveguides has one end sealingly closed with tapered ceramic members of the forwardly traveling wave and for the backwardly traveling wave secured on the respective waveguide walls. During its propagation, an electromagnetic wave is perfectly absorbed by the lossy ceramic members.

    摘要: In traveling wave tubes with broad bandwidth, such as an octave or more, the gain varies by many dB across the band. One or more lossy circuits inside the tube coupled to the interaction helix-type slow-wave circuit are resonant at frequencies within the operating band. They provide a loss varying with frequency to compensate for the gain variation. The resonant circuits are typically metallized patterns on a dielectric rod which may be a support rod for the interaction circuit. Compared to an external gain equilizer in the drive circuit of the TWT, the internal equalizer is cheaper and provides a better noise figure.

The attenuation members are retained by a press or force fit with the transverse discs, and may be provided in the portion thereof surrounded by the associated transverse disc with at least one notch which extends transversely to the longitudinal axes of the members and which is at least partially filled with the ductile material of such associated transverse disc.
