Various embodiments disclosed relate to melt-stabilized materials including ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), methods of making the same, and medical implants including the same. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method of melt-stabilizing a material including UHMWPE. The method includes obtaining or providing a solid material including UHMWPE including a first concentration of free-radicals. The method includes coating at least part of the solid material with a liquid composition including at least one antioxidant, to provide a coated solid material. The method includes heating the coated solid material in an environment including oxygen, the heating being sufficient to melt at least part of the UHMWPE, to provide a heated material. The method also includes solidifying the heated material, to provide a melt-stabilized material including UHMWPE including a second concentration of free-radicals, wherein the second concentration of free-radicals is less than the first concentration of free-radicals.

Polymer processing additive compositions, homogeneously catalyzed olefin compositions, and other extrudable polymer compositions including a poly(oxyalkylene) polymer and a metal salt of a carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, or alkylsulfate are disclosed. Methods of reducing melt defects during the extrusion of a thermoplastic polymer, which may be a homogeneously catalyzed polyolefin, are also disclosed.

A die suitable for extrusion of thermoplastic vulcanizate is provided, in particular for co-extrusion of multiple materials comprising a thermoplastic vulcanizate. The die comprises a pool die plate, an orifice die plate, and a profile die plate. By utilizing the die according to the present disclosure in extrusion, the flow of extrudate can be well controlled and balanced due to the design of flow pool and through orifice, thereby an extruded article achieves good shape performance, for example, good surface smoothness, and an undesired effect like edge tear, warpage, die moustache, silver line in the extrusion can be avoided.

There is provided a surface composition for reducing degradation and fading of surfaces subjected to extended periods of submersion in an aqueous liquid. The surface composition comprises at least one clear barrier layer and at least one under layer, wherein the clear barrier layer is in use, disposed atop the under layer and in contact with the aqueous liquid whereby the clear barrier layer protects the structure and appearance of the under layer. The surface composition is particularly useful in applications where the surface is subjected to extended periods of submersion in liquids containing hydrolysing or oxidising agents, exposure to ultra violet radiation, or combinations thereof, whereby the clear barrier layer provides structural protection against degradation from chemical attack and from fading due to UV exposure. There is also provided a method of manufacturing a boat or other watercraft surface composition. There is further provided a use of a surface composition in the manufacture of a boat or other watercraft. There is yet further provided a boat or other watercraft manufactured from the inventive surface composition.
