    Abstract: Disclosed are improved snowplowable pavement markers (130,230) held fixedly to a roadway (180,280) by adhesive (185,285). The markers (130,230) include a holder (131,231 ) and at least one transversely arranged reflector (32) to retroreflect incident light from headlights of approaching vehicles. The holders (131,231 ) have a pocket (155,233) for supporting the reflector (32). One or more through openings (156,250) having angled sides (157,251 ) are defined in the bottom of the pocket (155,233) so that when the marker (131,231 ) is installed in an adhesive bed on the pavement (180,280), adhesive (185,285) flows into contact with the holder (131,231 ) and the bottom of the reflector (32) to simultaneously affix both to the pavement (180,280). Reflectors (32) may be replaced by simply chiseling an old reflector out of the holder pocket (155,233) to create a flat bottom surface in the pocket to which a bead of mastic adhesive (185,285) is applied and a new reflector (32) is subsequently installed. This new marker construction applies to both raised and recessed snowplowable pavement markers.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an alkyd resin-based pre-manufactured thermoplastic airport runway signage that is applied in relatively large sections onto an airport runway. The pre-manufactured preformed thermoplastic formed as a continuous sheet and wound onto a take-up spool. The runway surface is prepared with a CCS epoxy primer and the preformed thermoplastic is unwound from the take-up spool and positioned onto the runway surface. When the pre-manufactured thermoplastic signage is in a desired location it is initially rolled conforming to the runway surface. Heat is applied to the rolled surface to a preferred temperature with an infra-red (IR) heater to melt and adhere the pre-manufactured thermoplastic signage into the runway surface.

    Abstract: A temporary marking material comprises a thermally-expansible layer containing a binder, a pigment and thermally-expansible microballs, and a pavement marker comprises the temporary marking material. Both the temporary marking material and the pavement maker hardly peel off or move during the use, and when they become unnecessary, they can be easily peeled off by heating from the structure in a short time by virtue of the expanded microballs. When the temporary marking material is in practical use, the thermally-expansible layer is disposed on the surface of a structure. The pavement marker is disposed on the pavement as part of a surface of the structure.

    Abstract: A method of making a pavement marker including the steps of forming an array of pavement elements in a predefined pattern interconnected by a carrier web. A frangible connection is formed between a plurality of the pavement elements and the carrier web.     Abstract: Composite pavement markings with improved wear resistance and other advantages are disclosed. The composite pavement markings typically include a unitary retroreflective article attached to a base pavement marking. With the composite construction, different portions of the pavement marking are provided at different heights. The taller portions of the pavement marking may preferably offer some protection to the shorter portions from wear caused by vehicle traffic and/or snowplow blades. By combining two different retroreflective pavement markings to form the composite pavement markings of the present invention, a combination of features and properties may be obtained that is provided by neither of the pavement markings alone. Methods of manufacturing composite pavement markings are also disclosed.
